“Grihadaha” won the B.F.J.A. award for best actor (Uttam Kumar). An adaptation of Sarat Chandra Chattopadhyay’s novel, “Grihadaha” was directed by Subodh Mitra in the mid 1960’s. The film was produced by Uttam Kumar Films Pvt. Ltd & distributed by Chhayabani Pvt Ltd. The screen play was penned by Subodh Mitra himself. The lyrics were majorly uplifted from Rabindrasangeets & the rest were penned by Pronob Roy. The songs were sung by Hemanta Mukhopadhyay & Sumitra Sen. Qualitatively “Grihadaha” was not a good work. The screenplay was not well woven, & so were’nt the characters. The complex psychologies of the characters created by Sarat Chandra & their deep interconnections were not executed efficiently by Mitra & his team. Nevertheless Uttam Kumar gave an astounding performance supported ably by Suchitra Sen, Pahari Sanyal, Sabitri Chatterjee & Pradip Kumar. In the end “Grihadaha” as a novel scored far better compared to its celluloid version.
