Suresh could not dream of the marriage between Mahim and Achala. Suresh informed Kedar babu, father of Achala, that Mahim was going to marry Achala definitely without informing her about poor financial condition. Achala said, she knew every thing. She only did not inform it to her father, only because he would not allow this marriage. Suresh was not only educated but also rich. So Kedar babu had a wish in his mind to make him the son-in-law and he gave Achala hints about that. Achala was in a dilemna. At last he called Mahim and gave him a finger ring and said since then, he had to solve this problem. Suresh got very angry when he heard about the ring. He insulted Kedar babu and went away. Kedar babu thought what a dificult person Suresh was. So he allowed the marriage between Mahim and Achala. They came to Mahim's village house. There lived Mrinal under the protection of Mahim's father. Few years back, Mahim's father wanted to unite Mahim and Mrinal but that did not happen. Achala came to know about this and after watching Mrinal's attitude towards Mahim she had a doubt in her mind. One day Suresh came there to see them. Getting Suresh on her side Achala started quarelling with Mahim and said she should not have married Mahim. Mahim politely promised her that he would definitely put them on the early morning train next day. But that night Mahim's village house was burned to ashes, and Achala had to leave for Calcutta. Mahim got very sick. Suresh brought him to Calcutta and took care of him. After Mahim got well, Kedar babu decided to send Mahim and Achala to Jabbalpur for a change. One day, when they were leaving suddenly Suresh came. He also joined them. Achala was in the Ladies compartment and Suresh and Mahim were in the general compartment. It was late at night, and it was raining. Achala was sleeping in her compartment, suddenly came suresh and asked Achala to come down immediately to change the train. Suresh put Achala in another train and went away to bring Mahim. Suddenly the train started leaving the platform and Suresh rushed back to Achala without Mahim. When Achala asked about Mahim, Suresh replied that she had fled away with him. Achala got down at the Dihatri station. Suresh also got down. Days passed Suresh and Achala were still in Dihatri. The local people believed that they were husband and wife. One day Suresh and Achala came to Bina's house. When Achala found Mahim there as the tutor of Bina's children she fainted. People of Majhuli were dying in plague. Inspite fo Achala's resistence Suresh went to Majhuli to nurse the plague stricken people. Suresh wanted to make amends for his guilt. Suresh was also attacked by plague and he also died. Mahim and Achala started their journey in a dark night towards a unknown destination.
