Goutam Ghosh in his film "Gudia" deals with the tragedy how the hard-acquired opera-art of ventriloquism is falling in decadence because of the corporate mammonism and unputdownable consumerism. He has adopted the plot from a story by Mahasweta Devi ,"Johnny O Urvashi". Unfortunately the gravity of the subject has been buried by the insertions of songs and loose script-work. We expected something more from the maker of "Dakhal","Paar","Dekha".
