  • Guzaarish: A cinematic experience!

Guzaarish rating: 9 out of 10(Plaban wrote on 22 Nov 2010)

Guzaarish is a beautiful movie. When it comes to pain, of all the contemporary movie directors, I think SLB has learnt the art of portraying it without going through the usual route of tear-jerking sympathy-begging scenes. He does it with dignity and that's what I think is the essence of this movie. To live life with dignity.

Hrithik Roshan has been known to portray difficult roles with careless ease. Something he proves again. Playing Ethan Mascarehnas is not easy, cause he not only needs to get into the psyche of a paraplegic but also needs to physically represent one. He does the two with effortless ease. Aishwarya has been a part of two projects this year, one which is a super duper hit: Thanks to Rajni effect and the second one was a damp squib. But in this movie as Sophie, she not only infuses life into the character, she gives new dimension to it. She moves beyond the role. You start believing in her, her love and dedication towards Ethan is platonic and san any expectation. And as Ethan mentions its one of the most remarkable love story.

Once we move ahead of these two characters, there is Aditya Roy Kapoor who is refreshing and then there is Shernaz Patel who is ably supporting the lead stars. Suhel Seth also puts in a good performance. Monikangna Dutt, although a lot was told there was little to see and even few to hear of her.

The story is about a paraplegic who want to die and appeals to the court
to make euthanasia legal. And his fight. Hrithik plays the paraplegic,
who has been a survivor and inspiration to other paraplegic, he has
written a book and has a radio show of his own which teaches people to
live and love life. So his decision for death comes as a shock to all.
But everyone forgets what he (Hrithik) believes in: Living with dignity.
The story then moves in current and flashback, tracing his life. His
life as a magician, as a lover and now as a survivor. Aishwarya Rai
pitches in with one of her brilliant performances so far. And the
chemistry between the two is brilliant, we have seen this in their
earlier movies and they donot dissapoint in this one. Hrithik lives his
life through Aishwarya Rai. He feels angry and needs to throw things
around he asks Aish to do it for him. Watch out for Aish to break into
an impromtu jig, wonder why? Well think what Hrithik's character would
have done, if he is steeping out of his house after 12 years, yes he
would have broken free that's what Aish does, showing him the world he
    wants to see.

The movie also score aesthetically, as is the case in all SLB movies.
The detailing in the movie is something noteworthy. Its not a tear
jerker, it is a warm story. And a warm story makes you flow with its
emotions. It makes you laugh and cry without being on the face. The music is a disappointment keeping in mind that this is a SLB production.

So go watch it. Its worth it. Its not a movie it's a cinema.... So
    experience the cinematic journey....
