Ghost films are rarely made in Tollywood so as and when such a film is made, it always creates interest in film lovers specially if it is not a traditioanl ghost film. Haatchani,a low budget film which has released is one such film..
The film is about a ghost who takes revenge on 3 victims because it had been 3 people who had been responsible for her death. The film begins with Ranjan,a salesman who comes to a place away from Kolkata to conduct a survey for his company. The hotel where he stays used to be a zamindar’s house and it is haunted by the ghost of a courtesan who used to stay at the zamindar’s place is what Ranjan discovers. He gets to see the ghost who wanders here and there and even hears her sing. Unknown to him, she chooses him as her latest and last victim as in the past 2 boarders had died mysteriously.
The story goes that Birendra Narayan, the zamindar had kept Ruma , the courtesan in his house and was besotted with her, but she had turned him down. His two friends had turned him against Ruma and one particular night Birendra had got drunk and gone after Ruma , but Ruma while trying to escape from his clutches had fallen to her death . Therefore her ghost still considers all 3 people responsible for her death and searches for 3 people whom she can finish off out of which 2 boarders have died in the past. Ranjan becomes the last victim.
The film doesn’t have any big names to boast of, but has an interesting story line and the story does manage to keep the audience interested till the last. The performances of the entire cast specially of that of Rupsha,Kharaj Mukherjee and Bhaskar Banerjee is more than okay. The music by newcomer Dilip is quite okay because the songs are definitely better than those of other films.
Overall the first time effort of first time director Gouri Shankar Sarkhel is more than decent.
