John Hancock (Will Smith) is an unlikely superhero, living in his own world. He is also unhappy and reluctant to assume responsibilities. Over the years, he has saved many lives in Los Angeles. However, in the process, he has had no concern for damaging city’s buildings, trains, roads, cars, or anything that gets in his way in order to get his job done. He always seems to leave jaw-dropping damage in On the last occasion, when he helped the city in capturing some criminals, it cost the city a whopping $9 million to fix the damages. The city and the administration had enough of Hancock, and they wanted to stop him or make him leave them and relocate to another city. One day, Hancock saves the life of Ray Embrey (Jason Bateman), a Public Relations executive who now can go home to his wife and child, because Hancock was there, when he was about to be run over by a train. Ray is indebted to Hancock for saving his life, and makes it his mission to change this superhero's image and get the public to cheer for him. The superhero begins to realize that he may have a vulnerable side after all. However, Ray's wife, Mary (Charlize Theron), believes Hancock is not one to be fixed, and at the same time, doesn’t want Ray to get hurt.
