Sanat Dutta‘s previous film was 'Preyashi', a disappointing film with the extremely miscast Samrat Mukherjee (Rani Mukherjee’s cousin) which was a washout. His latest film Handcuff is a quite good decent film and in fact better than most commercial ventures. It stars Rituparna and Samrat Mukherjee as the husband-wife duo who move in to a new locality where Samrat (Deep) is the new O.C.His wife Shika(Rituparna) is a lawyer.Deep,a very honest cop tries to set right by bashing up the M.P son’s who is a goon.Hia main rival turns out to be Madhu ,a dreaded anti social of the area who turns out to be Shikha’ s college mate and ex boyfriend.Madhu rescues a girl Pooja from a brothel one day. Deep wants to arrest Madhu at any cost yet Madhu doesn’t want to harm Madhu since he is Shikha’s husband.Shikha initially also refuses to take Madhu’s case. The twist remains to be seen.
The film is interesting and the actors chosen for the roles are perfect. Everyone plays their part well specially Samrat Mukherjee, the T.V actor who runs his own institute for performing arts in Kolkata and has acted in the lead roles in 5 Bengali films in the past. For some reason he was a sort of failure in those films , but he makes an excellent comeback in Bengali films with this film. What one fails to understand is if a lot of completely hopeless people can make it big, why doesn’t Samrat click? God knows what sort of a leading man the audience like and what they like in certain people. His entire body language along with his height and physique helps him to create a personality which is excellent.Little known actor Sameer Aftab is good as Madhu as well as is Rituparna as Shikha. The music is okay.Rajatava plays a role which we have seen him playing before so it is standard fare for him. We even get to see Ritu wear mini skirts after a long time and she isn’t looking that bad at all. Newcomer Zinia is okay.
