Haradhan Bandopadhay was born on 6th November, 1926 in Darshana. He did his schooling from Kushthiya Municipal School and passed Matriculation in 1944. In 1946, he finished his IA exam from City College. During his early days of life, he worked in Ganshal factory. In 1946, he joined an insurance company, and he continued there till his retirement . He was even sent to jail for his involvement in freedom struggle movement of India.
In 1948 , he made his debut in director Atanu Bandopadhay’s film “Devdut” .He was associated with theatre ,plays and a regular stage artist. He delivered some of his best performance in films like Mahanagar(1963), Akash Kusum (1965) , Joibaba Felunath(1979), Sakha Prosakha(1992), Sweth Pathorer Thala (1992), Kapurush Mahapurush. He was one of the favourite actors of Satyajit Ray. But his role in Sekhar Das’s National award winning film ‘Krantikaal’, as a paralytic and dumb old Zaminder of 93 years of age, fetched him a national award for Best supporting actor.
In 1961, he worked in Utpal Dutta’s play “ Ferari Fouji” which earned him the Best Stage artist award by Ulto Rath Magazine. Other than many honours, Haradhan received National award in the year 2005.
