The most sentimental in built romantic saga of sub continental film history, “Harano Sur” was scripted & directed by the legendary film maker Ajoy Kar. Before “Saptapadi”, this film was another blockbuster crated by the Ajoy Kar – Hemanta Mukhopadhyay – Uttam Kumar trio. The film released in the early 1957 & was presented by Charu Chitra & produced by Uttam Kumar himself. The film was distributed by Chhaya Pvt Ltd. Ajoy Kar himself penned the screenplay & partially operated the Camera. Hemanta Mukhopadhyay created history with his heart wrenching melodies & the song “Tumi Je Amar…” sung by Geeta Dutta, precisely remained the epitome of utmost romanticism even after 50 years. The film was nothing revolutionary in content, nor had candid philosophies. But what appeals is the “humane” overtone depicted masterfully by Ajoy Kar. After going through this film he may be rated as the father of romantic sagas. “Harano Sur” won the national award for best film. Besides Uttam Kumar & Suchitra Sen, the film starred Pahari Sanyal, Utpal Dutta & others. Worth a watch!
