Haridhan Mukhopadhay was born on 10th November, 1907 in Gobardanga. His real name was Dinobandhu. He completed Matriculation from AV school of Shyambazar. During his childhood, he used to sing spiritual songs which earned him the name “Haridhan”. He was the first person who formed a Kirtan Group with little girls and named it Dinobandhu Sammmilani. He took his lesson of Classical music from Siva Mitra. He was fortunate enough to perform in presence of Kabiguru Rabindranath Tagore. In his professional life, he has invested in many business and used to work in Kolkata Municipal Corporation.
He made his acting debut in the film “Sahar theke Dure” directed by Madhab Ghoshal in 1943. Sandhi (1944) , Paras Pathar(1958), kachanjongha(1962), Anthony Firingi (1967), Phuleshwari (11974) , Hirak Rajar Deshe (1980) are some of his films which deserve special mention. He was also a regular and popular stage artist who was associated with television and radio.
He was given special felicitation on the eve of completion of 200 years of Bengali theatre. In 1982, he was again awarded a special award by B.F.J.A for completing 50 years in the world of Bengali Cinema with grace. Not only this, he also received various awards from Natya Academy , Federation of Film Societies of India (1989), Mime Academy, Sangeet Natyak Acedemy (1993-94) .
