Hello Memsaab, a much delayed film is probably Jeet’s worst film in recent times after his reemergence as an action hero with Wanted followed by Fighter and Shatru.True, the film belongs to a different genre, but the script and the treatment makes it a pathetic film.
The film is all about how Megh Chatterjee (Jeet) falls in love with Mita when he sees on the road, a clear case of love at first sight. He immediately starts to pursue her. He follows her to her home and discovers that she is expecting an Oriya ‘man servant’ from Orissa. What better way to get close to his beloved? Why, become ‘Priyo’, the ‘Oriya man servant’ of course! He disguises himself and becomes Priyo. Many days pass and he wins over Mita and her younger brother Tinga who takes to him immensely. In fact Tinga somehow sees through this game later on.Me also rents a flat below Mita’s flat. He also discovers later on that she is his employee. His game is up when Mita discovers his real identity. She starts hating him, resigns and plans to go away from Kolkata. Megh hatches a plot with his grandmother where there is a false marriage taking place.Mita arrives at his marriage after getting his invitation and discovers that everything had been planned in that manner so that he could win her over.
The execution is extremely poor. The plot tends to drag and drag after a while. The funny moments when Kanchan as the original “Priyo’ turns up is not that funny at all. You have even have songs turning up from nowhere; including an item number in an Oriya ‘Para’. Since when do item girls perform for servants? The last song keeps on appearing from time to time in bits and parts and that is when the audience gets irritated and there were boos all around (which included fans of Jeet fan Club as well). In an office, Dimpy Ganguly (yes Dimpy Mahajan now!) who makes her debut with this film wears 'non corporate' clothes!Meg turns up announced at Tinga’s school on the day of the parent-teacher meeting as his uncle! How did he know about the parent teacher meeting? When Tinga goes missing at the end, Megh and Mita go to places like Bowler’s Den, Aquatica and last but not the least a station which says ‘Kolkata’!Horrendous!!!!!!!Is is the same filmmaker who has given us the brilliant ‘Icche’, again a much delayed project, but a film of a different magnitude altogether? Is this what happens when an art filmmaker tries to go commercial? Oh God!!
Going by performances, Jeet is okay, but Priyanka is good as Mita.Priyanka who has been most successful in her earlier films with Jeet shows why we should see much more of her. Even after her marriage and two children, she has kept herself as well as anyone else and she looks very good. The music is by Surajit (of Bhoomi fame who had earlier scored the music for Shiboprasad’s Icche’) and it is okay though none of them have strong recall value. A veteran like the late Gita Dey has been completely wasted in this film. It tells us about the delay behind this film.Bhola Tamang has also been wasted.Lopamudraa Das who is a P.R professional is surprisingly more than okay in her performance as a maid servant. Lolita Chatterjee is a pleasant surprise in this film as Jeet’s grandmother.
Last of all, we are tired of seeing Aritra doing the same ‘pakamo’ in every film. Something different is needed from him now.
