In Hercules the shadow looms bigger than the real self. As the bigger a man becomes the shadow grows in proportion. Hercules, the legendary Greek hero (better known as Hercales, Hercules is the Roman name) is known to be super hero who was known for his super feats and adventures in which he overcame many superior evil creatures or men to achieve the impossible. Therefore it is obvious that he is a man of immaculate strength.
Hercules, a new film Abhijit Guha-Sudeshna Roy releasing this week is not about the figure, but draws some ideology from the real figure. They have wanted to show that an average man can even rise above himself if sudden situations arise in life and shock people.
Over here, Hercules or Haru is played by Parambrata(named after the legendary figure) who stays in a old North Kolkata house inherited by him. He is a weak and timid figure and he is initially intimidated by the local goon (Saswata Chatterjee) who is eyeing the property on which Hercules stays. Haru is the simpleton who fights against it all and Parambrata is even okay as Bhondor, his other avatar as well. Saswata as the local goon look confused, amused and lastly defeated by Haru. Paoli plays Haru’s sweetheart Meenu who does a good job, but is too confident a character who runs a PCO booth. Biswajit Chakrabarty plays the promoter who is eyeing Haru’s property. There are also several not so well known actors who play the other characters in the film. The sets are nice and authentic and is a plus point. However at the end what is Haru left with and what is his fate?
It is a simple tale told in a simple manner with simple characters about ordinary characters becoming extraordinary like Haru.
