‘Hing Ting Chhat’ –Yes that is the name of a Bengali film which has been just released. With a name like that, either it will be a children’s film or it will be a normal film with disastrous effects. Well it turns out to be the latter. An attempt has been made to make it into a comedy, but ahem!
What do you say about a film which begins with a guy having O.S.D having a fight with his girlfriend and taking off to North Bengal where he comes across extreme weird characters like a couple Mr. and Mrs Lodh, the husband trying to be a producer and eying young girls and the wife trying to act young and beautiful. To sum it up, you have a magician who is always dressed in a robe, wears a crown and has a ‘digital girl ‘as part of his show whom he has created.Akash falls in love with Sonali, the digital girl .When he goes away to a tea estate, his suitcase goes to the magician and the magician’s similar red suitcase containing Sohini goes to Akash to make matters worse .This is where the fun or torture starts.
Sonali means so much to the magician that he wants to make Mrs.Lodh act as Sonali for a day and so he packs her off in the red suitcase and he goes to locate Sonali with Mr.Lodh.The suitcase containing Mrs.Lodh even falls off midway though he is successful in finding Sonali and makes her perform in his show for one last time. After the show, he can’t find Sonali anymore as Mr.Lodh has taken away the suitcase, but Akash manages to take away the suitcase from Mr.Lodh and release Sonali.
The magician is shocked, discards his robe and gives up magic for ever.
What do you say about a film with a name like this where Soumitra Chatterjee is in the central role as the magician Kalkut? The names of Samadarshi Dutta will seem familiar to people who saw his last film Arohon where he was excellent in his first starring role, but here he is extremely ordinary. Is it the same guy? Ankita who plays Sonali is ordinary. You have two excellent actor/actress like Rajatava Dutta and Sudipa Basu acting as Mr. and Mrs.Lodh.While Sudipa is till tolerable, Rajatava is completely wasted in trying to being funny? Pray what is Soumitra doing nowadays? The thespian is taking on roles which do his image no good and this role is the biggest embarrassment. As Kalkut he is forever dressed in a robe and a crown and in o0ne particular scene goes on having several momos.Madhabi Mukherjee appears at the very end of the film in one last scene as Soumitra’s sister-in-law .What made her even act even in that last scene of the film?
The music of the film is surprisingly quite good and fresh and that is the only good thing about the film besides the locales of North Bengal.
The worst part-Rajatava running around bare bodied and in his ‘chaddis’ in one scene.
