Housefull 2 rating: 7 out of 10(Divya Solgama wrote on 06 Apr 2012)

Sajid Khan is known for his love for cinema, especially hard core Masala Hindi Cinema. Whenever he made a film people knew for sure one thing, that they will have time pass paisa vasool fun. Though the movies lacked logics and at many occasions survived only on slapstick humor, but still it managed to make it audience laugh. This year he brings a sequel to his Super Hit flick “Housefull” with more stars and characters then last time. They say more the merrier so let’s find out whether “Housefull 2” will be as entertaining as it’s predecessor ‘Housefull’ {Which many found it quite irritating at time} or vice versa.

“Housefull 2” is story of two half brothers Daboo Kapoor {Randhir Kapoor} & Chintu Kapoor {Rishi Kapoor} who hate each other. The bitterness is carried forward by their wives and daughter Heena {Asin} and Bobby {Jacqueline Fernandez}. Both appoint marriage maker Akhree Paasta {Chunky Pandey} to search a rich bridegroom for their daughters. Akhree Paasta finds a suitable match Jai {Shreyas Talpae} for Chintu Kapoor’s daughter Heena but Chintu Kapoor insults Jai’s parents due to a misunderstanding. Jai’s father land up in hospital and in order to teach Chintu Kapoor a lesson takes help of his friend Jolly {Ritesh Deshmukh} whose father JD {Mithun} is one of the Richest guy in the country. Jolly and Jai appoints Max {John Abraham} as fake Jolly to fix marriage with Chintu Kapoor’s daughter, but Max accidently lands up at Daboo Kapoor’s house. Now enters Sunny {Akshay Kumar} who becomes fake jolly and finally lands up at Chintu Kapoor’s house. Thus leading to nonstop confusion throughout the film.

Story is fine and has lots of tracks in it. Screenplay is superb in the first half, but fails to match the havoc in comparison to the first half and even the first part {Housefull}. The movie has loads of gags and some good one lines, but as movie goes further the more gags are required. The movie has some hilarious moments like Introduction scene of Daboo and Chintu Kapoor’s, Chintu Kapoor’s firing virendra saxena, Asin-Akshay meet, Crocodile scene, Akki-John food hunt, Akshay teaching Asin how to do Aeeh, Jhonny lever’s confusion, Akshay convincing Mithun for john (reminds you of kader khan), Ranjeet introduction and end credit scene, Jhonny Lever catching all four, Everyone behind Mithun in the climax and few more. But on the flip side the gags starts to fade out as the movie goes ahead, People want to see more fun. Also Introduction of so many characters might leave bit of confusion in audience mind. The confusion in the last hour should have been total dhamaal, but sadly it ends up with just above average level. Locations are good and camera work is fine. Editing was required in some parts, but I guess many scenes {Shown in promos} were missing.

Music by Sajid Wajid is enjoyable. “Papa To Band Bajaaye” is fun retro track {The Television video is more entertaining}, “Hume Tumse” is a sweet track and yes the tune reminds you of Abhijeets ‘Khanaiya’. ‘Right Now’ is fun watching. ‘Anarkali’ is crowd puller.

Sajid Khan as I wrote above is known for his love for Masala Entertainers and thus one does expect him to deliver the same. You can see his stamp at various places in the film {Ranjeet Tribute, ‘Chupke Chupke’ type confusion, Kader Khan scene ripped by Akshay, The whole ‘Mera Naam Joker’ background tune, Mithuns dacoit films reminder and many more}. But Sajid forgot that if you are making a sequel you don’t need more actors or characters or budget, you need a script which has to be more powerful than the original. Sadly out here he starts on a very promising note but ends up being below its first part film. If only he would had added more fun and confusion the audience would had double fun. Still on overall basis the movie has its own merits and is total entertaining and full of fun, laughter, slapstick and bit of over the top comedy.

Akshay Kumar is outstanding in this film. His tribute to Ranjeet’s ‘Aaaye’ is mind blowing. You love the wicket side in him. His ‘Ayee’ and ‘Kyu Thakk Rahe Ho’ will be very popular. John looks fantastic, but is very very bad in the comic scenes. His emotions looked fake and over the top. Ritesh is good, but could have done much much more. He fails to match the ‘Housefull’ level. Sheyas is wasted. From the heroines none of them have done any commendable job, except for Asin’s take over Ranjeet’s ‘Aayee’. Randhir Kapoor and his ‘Supperb, Mazaa Aaa Gaya’ dance was hilarious. Rishi Kapoor looked cute and all the scenes between brothers were entertaining. Boman Irani had very little to do, his contribution in the first part {Housefull} was superb, but out here fails to match the level. Mithun is fantastic and does his part very well. Chunky and Jhonny gives perfect support with their comic timing. Mallika Arora Khan is horrible when it comes to acting.

So bol meri ‘Filmi Khopdi’ iss film mein kitna hai Dum ?

Dum hai kaafi dum hai, but only for people who loves Sajid Khan style of comedies. The movie is total paisa vasool masala entertainer. It could have been a laughter riot if it had more gags and funny situations. If you are expecting this movie to be double the fun of Part one {Housefull} then you might have some disappointment. In short we can say the movie is crowded with good stars, gags, songs and entertainment but not above its part one – Housefull level. Still a enjoyable flick for summer treats {Especially among the kids and youngsters}.
