There are two types of films which deal with Ghost, one which scares you or pretend to scare you in the name of Horror Genre and another which deals with good ghost or harmless ghost in the name of Children Genre. Just raising the level above the Children Genre comes one more type of films which are either romantic or comedy and has the spirits shown in mushy manner. In Hollywood we have seen much such type of films where Patrick Swayze “Ghost” comes at the top of our mind, which was later copied in Hindi as Pyar Ka Saaya or Maa etc. Now Arshad Warsi brings us his first production in the name of “Hum Tum Aur Ghost”, let’s find out how it fares.

“Hum Tum Aur Ghost” is story of Armaan {Arshad Warsi} an Alcoholic Photographer, who prefers to sleep in Railway Station as he hears some strange noises at his home. In his life he has a friend called Mini {Sandhya Mridul} and his love Gehna {Dia Mirza}. But due to the strange noises, he drinks alcohol every night and then suffers next day as he is late on his work and assignment. One day he is visited by a Ghost of Mr.Kapoor {Boman Irani} who lets him know the reason for this strange experience. Kapoor tells Armaan that he posses the power to see and hear dead people and thus he needs to help the dead people who seek salvation. Will Armaan agree to Kapoor or still face the strange experiences which are running his normal life. Well that’s what the movie is all about.

Story is inspired by few Hollywood films, but has its original touch too. It’s nice and simple with some good dash of romance. Screenplay is bit slow and drags a lot at many places. If you go as per the promotion the film has to be a Comedy, which it is but only in few scenes. So what’s it all about, well it has more of Drama and Romance than the humor. Editing too needed to be bit sharp at many places. Camera work is superb and special effects are very nice. Especially in the climax scene of the accident.

Music by Shankar Ehsaan Loy is decent. Dj give me some more, Dekho Raste mein are very nice and keeps the romantic mood going on in the film.

Kabeer Kaushik made a hard hitting film with Arshad Warsi called “Sehar”, but after that gave a bad film in name of Chamku. It was quite shocking to see his name for this Rom-Com which he has handled it much better than his last film Chamku. Sadly the humor is missing where it was meant to and romantic scenes were bit more when drama was required. Thus the film ends up as an above average flick.
Arshad Warsi is nice and typical as he is in almost all the films. Arshad for humor you don’t need to eat the words as you kept doing in the film regularly. Dia looked nice and sweet. Sandhya Mridul is a good support. Boman Irani gives another good performance. Shehnaz, Ashwin, Tinu and Javed Sheikh are pretty average.

So bol meri “Filmi Khopdi” is film mein kitna hai dum ?

Dum hain, as it has some good romance and nice performance by Boman Irani. Sadly the film has been promoted as a Comedy and that’s what goes against it. Along with repetitive performance by Arshad Warsi, Dragging Second half which makes the film an above average flick. Maybe next time Arshad try to do something which you have not done before or something which you can do it better and for his wife who is co-producer of the film, she needs to tell him that together Hum Tum can do much better.
