  • Ankush returns after nearly 2 years as the 'Idiot'

Idiot rating: 0 out of 10(Aditya Chakrabarty wrote on 19 Nov 2012)

Idiot has a fresh pair in the form of Ankush and Srabanti, but it has a very different storyline as well (at least as far as the 2nd half is concerned). Ankush who had shown much promise in his debut film Kellafate returns after nearly 2 yearbs back as Samrat, the ‘Idiot’. This idiot is a complete vagabond who is a good for nothing fellow and even his parents think him to be an idiot. His life changes when he sees Anjali and falls in love with her at first sight. After meeting her over protective brother, his life changes even more . Here comes the twist in the tale. The money which he takes from her brother to forget her actually turns out to be a ‘loan’ which he had taken(does return it with an interest) and he does all this because he wanted to teach her over protective brother a lesson about the demarcation between the rich and poor which he had stated at some point of time. For that he even forgoes everything including his love which he sets aside as a ‘collateral security’, but later takes it back.

Ankush had shown some promise as an actor and a dancer in Kellafate a couple of years back and he does show that promise once again. This is an actor who isn’t tall at all, not too good looking, but he does make it up with other things. He plays the idiot perfectly. Srabanti is okay. The surprise package of this film is our very own bad boy of Bollywood, Aditya Pancholi who plays the part of the over protective brother Ranobijoy Sinha and he does suit the role well. The songs have been shot in locations like Switzerland, Italy and Turkey and Srabanti does have a problem matching up to Ankush’s steps which is expected because one of Ankush’s strengths is his dancing skills. One of Yanni’s scores, ‘Santorini’ figures on more than a few occasions as the background score. Some things don’t match. How does the idiot become such a successful businessman dealing in real estate and constructions overnight? Also after he becomes a successful businessman, in some scenes he sports a beard while sometimes he does not, in some scenes he wears earrings, sometimes he does not.

The 2nd half of Idiot is very unusual and that makes it different.
