Isi ka naam zindagi is based on the bengali play "Sajano Bagan" . In a small village, Bansiram (Pran) owns & maintains a plot of land donated to him by a kind hearted Zamindar. The Zamindar's son views this plot & describes it as heavenly & wants it any cost. Bansiram refuses to sell it. Bansiram appeals to the British for protection which they provide. Zamindar's son passes away & his look alike son Devraj (Shakti Kapoor) comes to take over the plot. Zamindar's soul, unable to complete its task, wanders around in pain. When Devraj finally goes to see Bansiram, he finds that the elderly man has a grandson Chotu(Aamri Khan) who wants to do a business of selling alcohol on the land. Devraj decides to take advantage of this situation. Chotu moves into the city to find a job & he is homeless. He meets Bharat Kapoor, a drunkard, who lets him stay at his home & Chotu & Chinky (Farah, Bharat Kapoor's daughter) fall in love. Devraj forces Bansiram to forge his signature to buy his property, so that he himself can be the owner of the land and also to avenge his father's death. Shakti Kapoor is doing whatever he can to kill Bansiram. He curses him, calls a tantrik, etc but Bansiram stays alive. At the end Devraj dies for no apparent reason. Both the zaminders becomes ghosts sitting on a tree, one smokes hookah & the other drinks.
