In the late 80’s when Masala films ruled, they consisted of the typical ingredients: songs, dances, comedy, emotions and action. Jai Veeru is such a Clichéd story, which is a typical pot boiler with all the elements required for a masala film. Sadly, though it’s released in 2009, and hence does not make an entertaining film.
Veeru, played by Kunal Khemu is a small time thief, who steals cars and then resells them. En route to doing so, he meets Jai (Fardeen Khan) who is a mechanic who possesses the talent of breaking into cars. They then decide to work hand in hand. Somewhere along the line, an unforeseedn event occurs due to which they both part ways. Also, adding to it is a ganster Tejpal (Arbaaz Khan) who is heel bent on killing them. Whether both of them survive this dreaded gangster, will be known only when one watches the film.
The lead actresses : Dia Mirza & Anjana Sukhani, are used just as eye candy. Fardeen Khan as usual fails to deliver a competent performance. Kunal Khemu tries to salvage but in vain, he does good in the comic parts though. Arbaaz Khan is wasted in a supporting role, though for a change, he portrays a negative character. Rajesh Khattar and Rakesh Bedi are okay.
After the 1st half, the film’s pace becomes slow and the story takes too many twists & turns which eventually ends up boring the audience. The direction, which is strictly okay, does not succeed in sustaining interest. Music too, is no great shakes, with only a couple of hummable songs.
Overall. It’s a film for the masses which will have a selected audience. But for others, they can surely give it a skip. Give it a shot on DVD !!!
