    Jaya Bhaduri Bachchan (Born: April 10, 1948) began her career with Bengali films when she was discovered by Satyajit Ray. Her husband Mr.Amitabh Bachchan – The Big B called as Bollywood ka Baadshah in the film industry. Son Abhishek Bachchan is a leading and successful actor currently. Her daughter Shweta was born while Jaya and Amitabh were working on the film Sholay. On June 3, 1973, she married actor Amitabh Bachchan. Jaya was born in a Bengali family. She studied in St. Joseph's Convent School, Bhopal. Her mother Indira Bhaduri resides alone in Bhopal in Central India. Jaya has two grandchildren from her daughter Shweta - Navya Naveli and Agastya Nanda. Her son-in law is Nikhil Nanda.
    Jaya Bhaduri’s first film 'Mahanagar' which was made in 1963 did not do too well, but she stood out as an actress who could mingle with the crowd.
    The doors of hindi cinema was opened when she soon became the girl-next-door with her second Bengali film 'Dhonni Meye' where she played Uttam Kumar's sister. She became a success after Guddi – a Hrishikesh Mukherjee’s film, in which she played a schoolgirl obsessed with film star Dharmendra. Then slowly slowly she had given many hit films like Jawani Diwani, Koshish, Anamika, Piya Ka Ghar and Bawarchi. She also did a number of movies with her husband Mr. Amitabh Bachchan who at that time was still a struggling star. Together they did films like 'Ek Nazar', 'Zanjeer', 'Bansi Birju', 'Abhimaan', ‘Sholay’ and ‘Chupke Chupke’.
    Of late, Mrs. Bachchan became active in politics, notably with the Samajwadi Party and has been a Member of Parliament, representing Rajya Sabha till lately. But was dis-qualified later where she trapped in some controversy. But she made a re-entry to the Upper House as MP of Samajwadi Party in July 2006.
    After a comparatively long stint, she assisted Amitabh Bachchan with ABCL and discovered freshers like Arshad Warsi, Priya Gill and Chandrachur Singh with 'Tere Mere Sapne'.
    As from the order wise her fist film was ‘Mahanagar’ (1963) and then ever watching Guddi (1971). From 1971 her career was moving very smoothly. She did Uphaar (1971) for which she was nominated as the Filmfare Best Actress Award.
    In 1972 she did many great films like Jawani Diwani, Bawarchi, Parichay, Bansi Birju, Piya ka Ghar, Annadata, Ek Nazar, Samadhi, and the famous film Koshish for which she again nominated for the Best Actress for the Filmfare Award. After that she also played in Shor and Jai Jawan Jai Makkan.
    Then in 1973, she did pretty good films such as Gaai aur Gori, Anamika, Phagun, Zanjeer and Abhimaan – the legend movie for which she was not only nominated but had won the Filmfare Best Actress Award.
    In 1974, the films she had done was Aahat, Dil Dewwana, Kora Kagaz – for which she again won the Filmfare Best actress Award, Naya din Nayi Raat and Doosri Sita.
    In 1975 she appeared in only three films, but all the three had achieved major success in box-office. Mili – nominated for the Best Actress, Chupke Chupke and Sholay.
    Then in 1977 she appeared in only one film, that is ‘Abhi toh jee lein’ and in ‘Ek Baap chee bete’ (1978). Nauker (1979) won her again the Award for the Best Actress. Then in Silsila (1981) which she nominated for the best Actress. Then after a gap of film appearances for 18 years, She returned to acting with Hazaar Chaurasi Ki Maa (1998), a film that sensitively portrays the Naxalite movement.
    After then she has been recently seen in many movies like 'Fiza' (2000), Kabhi Khushi Kabhi Gham (2001), Koi Mere Dil Se Poochhe (2002) and Kal Ho Na Ho (2003).
    Fiza was considered one of her best performances and she received the Filmfare Best Supporting Actress Award for her work. In Karan Johar’s Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham (2001), once again she starred opposite with her husband after a long time also received this time as the Filmfare Best Supporting Actress Award. And in Kal Ho Na Ho She played the role of Preity Zinta's mother, Jennifer, for which she re-again received the best supporting actress award. Her recent and latest film is Laaga Chunri mein Daag, where she worked with her son Abhishek Bachchan but hardly shared ant frames.
    Her upcoming movie is ‘Drona’ starring his son Mr. AB which is yet to be released on 2nd of October 2008.
