Jekhane Ashray is an extremely disappointing film finale from Tollywood as well as from this eternal earth for Mahua Roychoudhury, the 1 actress and queen of Tollywood in the 80s who died an early tragic death in the 80s.It traces the journey of Swarna, a young girl from a village who is brought to the city by a distant relative Sarada. Her father had died while trying to fight goons who had been sent to take her elder sister to the zamindar who had assaulted her.Her elder sister later committed suicide. In the city she performs a few household chores for the people of the house and undergoes education under Ajay, Sarada’ neighbor’s son.Swarna grows up and becomes close to Ajay who is a little older than her. One day she comes across her childhood friend Sundar who sells flowers for a living. He is extremely sick and asks her to go away, but she starts nursing him back to his health. Meanwhile Swarna and Ajay‘s marriage is fixed. Ajay comes to know about Sundar’s existence one day and the marriage is off. Ajay goes off to Delhi as he has got a job. Sundar also passes away leaving Swarna all alone.
It is extremely unfortunate Mahua’s last film has been released nearly two and a half decades after her tragic death. It seems the film has suddenly found itself a financier after so many years. The director has proved himself to be a jack of all trades and master of none as he is the person behind all the creative departments of the film other than producing the film as well! One had a little expectation from Mahua taking into consideration this is her last film, but it is an extremely ordinary film. She had played similar roles in the past and she was an extremely versatile actress of her time. The film has too many unnecessary songs and homage is also paid to another character artiste Padma Devi at the beginning of the film who also appears in the film and passed away at that time.
