Jishu Sengupta (Bengali: যীশু সেনগুপ্ত), popularly known as Jisshu, is a Bengali film actor. Though, his real name is Biswaroop Sengupta, he is more famous as Jishu, which happens to be his pet name. He is the son of Ujjal Sengupta, also a famous actor of Bengali Films. His mother, Mukta Sengupta, was a home maker and a wedding planner. Jisshu has an elder sister, Satarupa (Rai) Sengupta, who is married to Anindya Bose, the lead singer from the Bengali Band, "Sahar." Initially, Jisshu was a cricketer, who represented Bengal in some sub junior games. But he was more keen to make a career in Bengali Film Industry. He got his first break in a mega serial, "Mahaprabhu" as the lead character, "Chaitanya Mahaprabhu." After that, there was no looking back for him. He was the most loved face of the then Bengali Television Industry. But, his career in Bengali Films never got the kind of start he would've liked. Apart from few small hits, most of his films bombed in the Box Office. Although Jisshu worked with renowned directors like Shyam Benegal ("Bose-the unsung Hero"), Rituporno Ghosh ("The last Lear",co actor Amitabh Bachchan), these films never boosted his film career. His wife Nilanjana Sharma, whom he married in 2004, is the elder daughter of Anjana Bhowmick, another Bengali film actress in Bengali Film Industry, her debut Bengali film Swapner Feriwala (2002) directed by Subrata Sen.
