Jochhon Dastidar was born in 16th June 1933 at Bhawanipore, Kolkata. His father’s name was Lakshmi Charan Ghosh Dastidar. He passes the metrics from the Mitra Insitution. He passed the graduation in 1957 from Govt Art College. He was a first division cricket player. He acted in film “Padatik” directed by Mrinal Sen. First acted in drama Jhar in Art College.
He was a famous actor and dramatist. His first written drama was “Antarin”. “Dui Mahal” established him as a good dramatist. He formed a group theatre Rupantari and then Charbak. He was the leader of making the serials in Doordarshan. Tero Parban, Gora, Sei Samay were hit serials. He also wrote many drama - Kartik, Aamar Vietnam, Chotodin, Ajger Spatekas.
Jochon formed a production house for TV production named SONEX. He acted in some film like – Nilkantha, Akaler Sandhane, Banduk Baaj, Garam Bhat. He was a member of litte theatre group, but he was not able to adjust with the group for a long time.
He was sent to jail under the defense of India rules, in 1965 for 6 months. He was a leader of leftist movement. He married his comrade Chandra Dastidar in 1961. Their only daughter Kheyai is also an actress. Jochon died on 16th July 1998.
