Marhaba “Hritik” Marhaba’ There was an era in Indian cinema where plenty of historic movies with mixture of romance, drama etc were made. Many were successful and the best reference point was of “Mughal e azam”. But from last few decades no historic movies were made in that grand scale. ‘Jodha akbar’ breaks the long gap of historic movies disappearance, and that too in a big way. ‘Jodha akbar’ is an epic tale of India’s biggest ruler “Jallaludin mohd akbar” and his lady love “Jodha”. The movie starts with the early life of Jodha-Akbar. At one side where young Jallaludin / Jallal go through the rough terrains of war, another side Jodha grows with lots of education, training, love, traditional values. When Jallaudin [Hrithik roshan] grows up he plans to spread his kingdom and have a united Hindustan. He sends his message to all the kings to come under his kingdom, including the kings of Rajputana. meanwhile Jodhas[Aishwarya rai bacchan] cousin brother Sujamal [sonu sood] leaves his kingdom and joins akbars brother in law Shareefudin [Nikhat dheer]. Fearing of loosing his kingdom jodhas father Raja bharmal [Kulbhushan kharbanda] does a deal with jallal. he accepts to be under the kingdom of jallal and offers marriage proposal for jallal with jodha. But jodha, unhappy with the proposal , request for two condition [not to change her religion and keep lord krishnas idol in her room]. Jallal agrees and they get married. Besides jodha plenty of akbars relatives were unhappy including saiffudin and Maha manga [Ila arun]. How does jallal and jodha deals with this journey of love is a delight to watch out for. Jodha akbar on technicality is a brilliant movie. From the start of the movie it gives you the feel of grand movie. Nitin desais sets and art direction is so good that it’s very hard to make out the real locations and sets. He has kept the sets and location as real and human. A.r.rehmans music is good and goes perfect with the feel of the movie. “Khwaja mere khawaja” , “Kehne ko jashn” are fine example of that. but “Marhaba” is marhaba, in music and choreography. Wished the music had more to offer. Cinematography [Kiran deohans]is totally in match for international standards. The way the battle of panipat is shot, makes you feel you are watching a grand opus. Screenplay and editing of the movie are good but needed bit gripping in last half an hour. where the story has nothing new to offer. Ashutosh gowarikar is one of those directors who make movies without thinking of box office. He makes movies from heart and soul. Though not competitive with his earlier works like Lagan or Swades, but a different league in itself. Few scenes in the movie are excellent. The battle of panipat , jallal training the elephant, jallal trying to impress jodha, the rajputana daawat , tiff between maha manga - jodha, sword fight between jodha –akbar and duel fight between jallal and shaifudin in climax. On the performance side…Sonu sood and Komal sinha were nice.Kulbhushan kharbanda had nothing new to offer. New comer Nikhat dheer is something to watch out for. Ila arun does a great negative performance. after long time a character showed so much evil within. Wished it was more. Aishwarya rai was perfect as jodha. She looked quite different and matched the grace of jodha. But the heart of the movie is hrithik roshan. He slips so easily in shoes of young akbar. His screen presence is remarkable. He carries himself with grace and makes us feel that he is the Emperor akbar the great. we always remember Prithivraj kapoor as old akbar. Now we will remember Hrithik as young akbar. It will be very hard to erase his image. So….”bol meri ‘Filmi Khopdi’ is film mein kitna hain dum???” Dum hain.. kafi dum hain and dumdaar hain….bas thodi lambhi hain, aur masala movie walo ke liye thoda masala kam hain. Masala movie lovers will not get attracted to this flick. a good movie lover will find a movie to add in their list. But at one point both will agree…’Marhaba “Hrithik” Marhaba’.
