Whenever our film-makers try to make a film with some an unconventional concept or innovative ideas, we either have had a classic path-breaking film or an outright disaster. Films based on the concept of Aliens have been a great favourite with the Hollywood since ever – over there, the audience is simply fascinated by the stories about the unknown beings from the outer space and with time, even most of our Indian audience has acquired a fine taste for their Sci-Fi flicks.

Not that out film-makers never even tried to dabble in this genre. Right from the 50s (Pradeep ... » read more

Joker - As the name itself suggests the word entertainment. Yes, who entertains the audience by making them laugh throughout. As there is saying from Bollywood queen, Ekta - "Picture sirf teen wajah se chalti hai" and JOKER is a full entertainment masala brought to you by Shirin Khundar.

    Will Joker attract audience?

Joker rating: 0 out of 10

Shirish Kunder’s film ‘Joker’ has a lot to boast about: a popular lead pair, a hot item number, aliens, technology and a unique story-line. But are these reasons enough for people to walk into their nearest theatre to watch this movie? With dismal promotions, whether audiences are really interested in this movie or not, it’s very difficult to say. But yes, if the content of the movie is good, then word of mouth may simply work wonders for ‘Joker’! » read more

Film: "Joker"; Starring: Akshay Kumar, Sonakshi Sinha, A village Of Wackos; Directed by: Shirish Kunder; Rating: ***

Imagine if Shah Rukh Khan left his posh job at NASA in "Swades" and returned to a village filled with escapees from a lunatic asylum and you have the basic plot structure of Shirish Kunder's "Joker", a film as crazy in intent as its characters make the proceeedings appear to be.

The film is a fun to watch when it isn't trying to be too clever for words, or when it isn't tripping over with its tongue-in-cheek smart-ass humour. The characters are uniformly self-deprecating. Some of the material connected to an outsider helping set a scrambled village in order through mirthful masquerade echoes Farah Khan's "Tees Maar Khan", though this time Akshay Kumar plays a far more 'serious' character.
