Jor Jar Muluk Tar rating: 4 out of 10(Aditya Chakrabarty wrote on 27 Nov 2010)

This film is essentially a college film with it’s share of action, gang rivalry and the tale of two gangs and how a professor comes and changes their lives. It starts off with the issue of ragging and one thought that would at least be the prominent feature of the film, but it becomes totally relegated to the backside after the initial stages. Rather Prof Bikram Chatterjee takes over and then it totally becomes his film. In fact due to lack of names, had Prasenjit not been there, obviously the film would not have been made or even if it would have made, it would have completely non successful.

Central College is ruled by two groups of students-one led by Shaan and one by Rocky. They have the ultimate say in everything and there is no discipline of any sorts in the college. One day a new professor Bikram Chatterjee arrives in the college and he starts setting things right. He deals with each individual separately so that they are able to rectify themselves. In fact so much so that Rocky’s father, a M.L.A even comes to congratulate Bikram for this reason. There is also an evil goon, Ranadeb who is eying the playground of the college and wants to turn it into a mall by giving it to a developer. He even has his man Rudra as apart of Shaan’s gang. A particular girl Lisa who has become a drug addict and sex worker due to a certain situation (for her autistic brother’s treatment) is provided financial help by Bikram.During a training session of rugby between the two gangs on the field one day, Rudra arrives there with members of Rana’s gang and injures Bikram severely by hitting him on the head. He is injured and undergoes an operation which is successful. He is successful in uniting both the gangs.

Rana meanwhile gets a false document of the playground signed by the clerk by threatening him initially and also later on killing him. He is arrested later, but also released later on. He arrives later on with his men to create trouble and to get hold of the field. Then the clerk’s wife sets a condition that let there be a rugby match between the college side and Rana’s side and whoever wins can take control of the ground. The evil goon agrees and there is a game where it is close, but eventually the college side emerges victorious.

The subplots make the film a little more worth watching as otherwise the film would have barely lasted till halftime and Prasenjit in fact loses consciousness just before interval and one thought that he had passed away, but no, he is soon revived much to our relief! He has as usual carried the film on his shoulders though Rajatava as Rana as acted well. The songs are not good at all.Rudra’s voice has been dubbed by someone else. Rajesh Sharma plays a positive role after a long time (he is a cop here).

Why would someone hide an important document like property papers in a khatal? Also which college in Kolkata plays rugby? This is a game which the mass has no clue about and if the word rugby was not mentioned, all of them would look blank if asked about the name of the game.
