Ray decided to bring alive Feluda once again on celluloid & this time the result was equally good as the earlier installment. The film released in 1979 & ran for weeks at theatres in Kolkata. “Joy Baba Felunath” revolves around Feluda’s mission & how he defeats the unholy coup of Maganlal Meghraj. Soumendu Roy’s camera & Ray’s direction brought alive the mystic ghats & by-lanes of Benaras. Ashok Basu’s art direction was sceptical & spot-on. Dulal Dutta’s editing & Ray’s background score brought every character & sequence to sizzle onscreen. The film was produced by R. D. Bansal & distributed by R. D. B. & Co. Besides Soumitra, Santosh Dutta & Siddhartha Chattopadhyay, Utpal Dutta, Haradhan Bandyopadhyay, Jit Basu & Biplab Chattopadhyay helped the film to become history with their performances. An out & out entertainer, this film discovers a lot more than the original novel. Ray altered the climax of the film from his novel, only to torment the cinematic excellence. A must watch!
