Aparna (Nandana Sen) is the protagonist of the movie “Kaler Rakhal” who is an NRI and has came to Bengal from Germany to make a documentary on Bengal’s folk culture. She comes with her friend and stays at his house. In the village, she meets SubalMondal (Prambrato Chattopadhyay), Rehan (Rudranil Ghosh) and discovers a new world. Subal, Rehan all are “Bahurupees” and perform different characters in different “Jatra”s. Apart from that Subal Mondal has another job. Whenever the local goon Nabacharan Ghosh or Tiger and his gang-members make any mess the political party leaders give Subal some money to spend 2-3 days in jail, in order to keep a good reputation of the party among the mass. The story takes a turn, as Tiger’s goons rape Aparna and again the leader-dadas offer Subal to take this charge on his shoulder and go to jail but this time he denies to do so. But being a poor fellow he ultimately accepts the offer but runs away from his village and goes to his aunt’s house in some other village, There he meets Sumi (Chandreyee Ghosh), his cousin and slowly their relation grew deeper than simple bro-sis relation. The goons however successfully trace him out & bring back to his village. There again the leader-dadas give him the same offer, and poor Subal finds no other way than committing suicide to escape from this terrible situation.
