    Kaberi Basu was born in Kolkata on March 28th, 1938. Her father was Jadabendra Basu. Kaberi passed her Higher Secondary Examination in 1955 from Beltala Girls School.

    Pahari Sanyal, the noted actor, was Kaberi’s family friend. Pahari introduced Kaberi to the film director Subodh Mitra. She made her film debut in “Rajkamal” in 1955 directed by Subodh Mitra. After Rajkamal within a year she acted in seven Bengali films. She was married to Ajit Chattopadhay in the year 1956. As her husband was posted in Munger in Bihar, Kaberi left film acting and shifted to Munger. Again after long 12 years due to instances of Satyajit Ray, Kaberi once again shoot in front of the camera in Ray’s “Aranyer Din Ratri” in a role of a young widow. This 1968 film of Ray brought Kaberi into lime light again. But she did not continue acting seriously after that. On June 12th 1970 while returning from Darjeeling along with her husband and daughter Tina, they met with a road accident. Her husband and daughter Tina died in that accident and she was seriously injured. She recovered after long three years. She was mother of one son and two daughters. She died on February 18th,1977.
