This is a story of a girl (Kavita) who sacrificed all her happiness for her family consisting of her mother, two younger sisters, a younger brother and an elder brother and his family. Her father left them when they were very young. She was the only earning member of her family. Kavita's only friend with whom she shared her feelings was Roma. Roma was the only child of a widowed mother. Kavita's special friend was Tilak who wanted to marry Kavita as early as possible. But Tilak couldnt wait too long and one fine day when he saw her younger sister Bharti, he decided to marry her. Kavita supported his decision and organised their marriage. Roma fell in love with another man who incidentally was also involved with her mother. When she came to know this she tried to commit suicide but Gopal (Kamal Hasan) who was Kavita's neighbour saved Roma's life. When she reached home she found her mother hanging from a ceiling. Kavita then asked Gopal to marry her and Gopal consented. On the other hand Kavita's boss loved Kavita and wanted to marry her. On the day of the marriage Kavita's elder brother got killed by Shomit Bhanjo in an attempt to prevent him from going to disturb the wedding ceremoney. Kavita cancelled her marriage and asked her third younger sister to marry her boss. Finally Kavita's boss married her sister. The next morning Kavita went back to her old destination -her work place to earn for her family's livelihood.
