  Kahaani Of 'Kolkata' Through 'Bidya'

  Expectations were tremendously huge for this movie. For at least 2 years, we heard of Vidya Balan doing a Sujoy Ghosh directorial in 'City of Joy' - 'Kolkata'. The teasers & trailers of the movie were called 'Explosive' as the movie looked too different. Adding to all of these, "The Dirty Picture" made the day for Vidya Balan & grabbed her a national award along with a row of other awards like Filmfare, IIFA etc. The role for Vidya in KAHAANI is extremely challenging for her and I think no one else could have done it better.   Jewel Thief,Gumnam,Teesri Manzil,Khamosh,Kahaani??

  Before we start talking about ‘Kahaani’, let me share all of you that from my childhood I use to crave for Suspense Thrillers. Films like Jewel Thief, Gumnaam, Teesri Manzil, Khamosh, Khel Khel Mein, Khiladi, Khoj, Desh Drohi, Bees Saal Baad, Dhund, Dhuan,Who Main Nahin, Kaun Kaisey and many more were among my any time movie watch list.   Notwithstanding the write-ups of many a grim-jawed critic tip-toeing to delve deep in order to trace the "negatives", " Kahaani" has resurrected and transposed " Agatha Christie" in Indian filmdom. It is not merely a crime thriller that Indian silver screen has ever witnessed. But, it would not be wrong to brand " Kahaani" as POLITICALLY PARANOID THRILLER.   Kahaani Mein Too Many Twists

  I had seen posters demanding to know if I had seen Arnab Bagchi all around town but I never tied it in with the movie until a friend pointed it out. Consequently I knew nothing about Kahani when I went to watch it. I just went to watch it because I had time to kill. And it was a largely enjoyable couple of hours.

  “Kahaani”, another power house performance by Vidya Balan, the story is of Vidya Bagchi (Vidya Balan), a software engineer from London who comes to Kolkata in search of her husband Arnab Bagchi (Indraneil Sengupta) who goes missing in Kolkata. The story revolves around how Vidya unfolds the mystery of her missing husband.

  Kahaani, starring Vidya Balan in the lead, is a riveting thriller that grabs hold of you within the first 5 minutes, and doesn't let go till the end credits roll.
  
  A heavily pregnant Vidya Bagchi (Vidya Balan) arrives in Kolkata from the UK in search of her missing husband, Arnab. She lands up at Kalighat Police Station, where a young inspector Satyoki aka Rana (Parambrata Chatterjee) helps her in her search.   Once upon a time,Marine Drive in Bombay was crowded with Bollywood cinema shooting. Then recently they shifted the entire equipment to NewYork and London with plenty of chubby Punjabis cracking horrid jokes. Then they once again came back, but this time to the rich mansions of Delhi. Thank you the director, Sujoy Ghosh tried something new in Kolkata, the city which always carried a cultural and emotional baggage with it. It's so easy to arouse the cultural complex of a Bong.   Kahaani, what a movie. Masterpiece! If Vidya Balan was excellent in "The Dirty Picture", then in "Kahaani" she is outstanding. Contrast of roles for her, quite challenging. I must say, no actress could have essayed the role of Vidya Bagchi as Vidya Balan. Subdued acting at it's best. Music is quite brilliant, it depicts the essence of Kolkata. Vidhal Sekhar you rock with Kahaani.
  If Dhobi Ghat showcased the city of Mumbai, Kahaani does the same for Kolkata. Parambrata (Bengali Actor) also supports Vidya, quite brilliant and charming as a young officer. He is the man ... » read more
