Sujoy Ghosh had initially titled the film as Kishtimaat (Checkmate), which was later changed to Kahaani.
Kahaani director Sujoy Ghosh briefed him about the character Bob Biswas as 'Binito Bob' (Polite Bob). Upon his suggestion, the director decided to give Bob a belly and a balding head. Saswata felt that idiosyncrasy would give the role an edge. He decided to show Bob rubbing his nails, as many balding men constantly do that to increase hair growth. That mannerism was Saswata's brainchild and it worked fabulously in the film!
the horrible song SOTTI BOLCHI in KAHANI===what a nasty composition? Is this the standard of Vishal Shekhar. Being a music composer of West Bengal I am feeling vry ashemed to listen to this nasty composition and how singer like Ushaji agreed to sing this type of song? Money Money sweeter than Honey?
I can not understand why Amitav bachan is selected to sing the rabindrasangeet AKLAA CHOLORE. His singing sounds vry odd. He had to take proper training from proper person to sing rabindrasangeet. It is an insult to Rabindrasangeet. 1st of all he is not at all a singer. He has no singing quality. More over it is a Bengali song which is not his language. His pronunciation is horrible and he has sung totally in wrong gayaki. It should be protested.
as i have watched the movie once i am not sure but from what i remember The rank of the intelligence officer who had quit earlier because of the metro gas tragedy came written as captain but Vidya in the end repeatedly refers to him as colonel ... why?????
Kahaani is based on a novel written by Advaita Kala, but the novel is going to release after the movie releases. So, there were rumors, the novel is an adaptation of the screenplay, which is actually not the case.
Amitabh Bachchan has lent his classy baritone voice to Rabindranath Tagore's epic song 'Ekla Cholo Re' in the movie.
Vidya Balan has a narrow escape while shooting. She almost fell on the railway tracks at a Kolkata metro station while filming for one of the scenes, in which she was supposed to run backwards. She had unfortunately hit a weighing machine and tripped. Director Sujoy Ghosh and crew members came to her rescue.
To promote Kahaani, Vidya embarked on a promotional tour with a pregnancy bump. She was seeing promoting the movie at public places like railway stations and buses in her character.
Vidya Balan made her debut in a Bengali movie, Bhalo Theko, which also starred Parambrata, her co-star in Kahaani.
