Kamal Mitra is a stunning actor of the Bengali Cinema who made his appearance felt in an unique way of his known. Kamal Mitra was born on 9th December, 1912 in Burdwan. He passed his Matric from Burdwan’s Raj Collegiate School. Later he joined Raj Collegiate College for some days. He was a very skilled sportsmen who used to play good football. He had even served the country by working in Military for some days .But later worked as a Collector for eleven years. On 15th July 1947, he got married and later had two daughters and one son. He had also worked as a radio artist.
Poet Kanak Mukhopadhay introduced him to director Gunomoi Banerjee . Thus, he made his debut in a small role in the film “ Nilangurio” in 1943. He was an extremely determined and dedicated actor who struggled hard to reach the pinnacle of success. In September 1944, he joined Star Theatre. Vidyasagar(1950), Anandomath(1951), Louhokapat (1951), Bondu (1962), Sesh Anko(1963) , Chowringee(1968), PitaPutra(1969) are some of his noteworthy movies. He had gracefully worked as a theatre and yatra artist for a long time. But unfortunately, he took retirement from this world of glamour when he got huge success as an actor. He had also contributed all his collection of valuable books to Nandan. Kamal Mitra has written his autobiography named” Flashback” published by Ananya Prakashan. This great legend passed away on 2nd August , 1993.
