Rudranil Ghosh is the central character of ‘Kapurush Mahapurush’ (no similarity with the Ray classic) which largely has a cast made up of character actors. The story is about Neptune ,a hopeless son of a retired school who in partnership with Gajuda, his friend, philosopher and guide(also a hopeless character) starts duping people by posing as ‘Apple Baba’ who fools the villager by promising to solve their problems with an apple. His ploy is foiled by his father who informs the cops and they arrest him and put him behind bars. He comes out after 6 months and is nearly run over by a car one day.Puja (it was her father’s car) takes him to her house and he recovers after a few days. Since Puja’s father is a doctor and she is also on the verge of becoming one herself, Neptune starts observing things and becomes an expert compounder. He goes away from their house after revealing the truth to Puja when he comes to know about her engagement as he has a soft corner for her. He again falls in Gaju’s trap who convinces him to become a fake doctor in the village without informing anyone. Soon again, he again shines However when Gaju’s nephew falls sick and he is taken to the hospital where Puja and her father are doctors, again Neptune helps Gaju’s nephew to recover.Puja’s father asks Puja to accompany Neptune to the village where she would be the doctor and Neptune could assist her.
The film is entirely centered on Rudra’s character and he always has a feeling of guilt in him which makes you feel for him. Also he has done a wonderful job as Neptune. The rest of the cast in okay, but Kharaj as Gaju is good though someone else has dubbed for him unfortunately. Much can not be said about the girl playing Puja as she is pathetic. The film does not have any songs barring a particular number sung by Kumar Sanu which is played a couple of times in the film.
The film is worth a watch because Rudra‘s character is called Neptune and because of his performance.
