    Kapurush: On his way to Hashimara to collect material for a film story, Amitabha Roy’s car breaks down in a small town. Stranded, they accept offer to spend the night at the house of Bimal Gupta, a local tea-estate owner. At Bimal's house Amitabha is shocked to see that host’s wife Karuna, as the girl he once loved and had let down. Unaware about this, Bimal entertains Amitabha lavishly and during the course of the evening talk about himself at length. As he learns more about Bimal, Amitabha realises that the marriage could not have been a happy one for Karuna. He seeks an opportunity to tell Karuna that he wants to take her away. But Karuna show no interest. The next morning amitabha decides to take the train to Hashimara instead of waiting for the taxi to he repaired. Before that, the three go out for a picnic. When Bimal falls asleep, Amitabha draws a hasty note to Karuna. I will wait for you at the station. If you still love me, come away and I won’t let you down this time. In the evening, as the hour of his departure nears, Amitabha wants impatiently at the station. When Karuna turns up, it is only to retrieve a bottle of sleeping pills she had given him the previous night. Mahapurush: After the death of his wife, Gurupada Mitter, a lawyer, is a restless man. On his way back from Benares, with his daughter Buchki, Gurupada meets Birinchi-a 'babaji (saint) who claims to be ageless. An impressed Gurupada decides to patronise the saint and become his disciple. Meanwhile daughter Buchki is disappointed with her lover, Satya, who writes a letter filled only with quotes from the romantics, she replies by writing that she has renounced her to become Birinchi's disciple. A worried Satya with his friend, Nibaran declares Birinchi a fraud. He later unmasks Birinchi and so assails the folly of the devotees who make it possible for swindlers to become saints.
