    Bollywood Calling New Ideas

Karthik Calling Karthik rating: 7 out of 10

    Rating: 3.5/5.

Review: In Karthik Calling Karthik, Vijay Lalwani, the new director in town brings together Farhan Akhtar and Deepika Padukone in a movie with a quirky name like Karthik Calling Karthik.

Karthik (Farhan Akhtar) is a loser in life, who stays alone and works in ACL Construction Ltd. He has poor social skills, low on confidence and inspite of being a topper at IIM and CA, he gets bullied at work, by his colleagues and his boss. Even his landlord always pesters him for extra money for repairing the lift. As expected, he also loves one of his ... » read more

Karthik calling me... in the second half!

Karthik Calling Karthik rating: 6 out of 10

    By Mayurica Biswas(27 Feb 2010)

Wish it didn't take half the film to set up the premise. Wish you didn't have to wait out a very mediocre pre-interval, left wondering if this was a very staged 'Choti Si Baat' with a bouquet of cardboard characters and cliches around Karthik. Wish there was more of what the Phoney Karthik actually said, to train and trigger the transformation.

But that's only till u get to the interval. After u've got ur popcorn, the film picks up pace and you're intrigued. You can guess the 'what' and the 'why, but the hook is in the 'how'. On the whole - innovative, nice moments ... » read more

Have seen better Farhan Akhtar movies

Karthik Calling Karthik rating: 4 out of 10

Let me state at the onset that this is not a typical Bollywood movie (although I felt we were heading that way when the Intermission sign came up). This is not a thriller per se, although some may want to call it a thriller. The 2 odd hours were spent ok, but as I've stated in the title, I've seen better Farhan Akhtar movies. Karthik Calling Karthik will never be able to match a Dil Chahta Hai or Rock On.

My first thought as I stepped out at the end of the movie was that Rs. 250 went down the drain. On second thought, it is not a bad movie. Can be watched once. ... » read more

    Don’t Miss This Call!

What would you do if you got a phone call from yourself?
Karthik Calling Karthik, the new sensation on the block starring Farhan Akhtar and Deepika Padukone is director Vijay Lalwani’s first venture in Bollywood so he’s not only directing the film but also co-producing it. The story of KCK has actually been kept under-wraps so we’ve all been very curious to know that what is this film all about… Is a double role story? Is it comedy? Is it romance or drama? Actually KCK is an amazingly fast-paced roller coaster ride from the start to the finish! At times it’s a thriller, ... » read more

It’s very true that Bollywood is really calling new ideas and delivering the audience with some new piece of entertainment. I think I can compare this film with “Bhool Bhulaiya”, people expected that it would be some comedy, but although it came out to be totally a different kind of movie, but a good kind of movie. Similarly in KCK, people must have expected that this would be some love story with add-on’s, but it came out to be totally a different kind of movie, with a very good suspense holding it till the end.

Listen to your heart and take this call….

Hollywood film making has been influencing many newcomer directors in our country from a long time, but then there are very few who manage to make a film under that influence and keeping in mind the audience of our country. Last year we saw Wake up Sid which was a perfect example of it. Following it we have now Karthik Calling Karthik which has an Experimental actor Farhan Akhtar, who’s Luck By Chance was a good effort in such type of cinema. Let’s find out what more does this flick offer.

“Karthik Calling Karthik” is story of Karthik Narayan {Farhan Akhtar} who ... » read more

Farhan has his own audience. He has his own style, and again he has his 'own' movie. Let me warn first, this is no a Bolly flick, if you are looking for. Karthik Calling Karthik is a really well made Psychological Thriller, which may find only a few takers. Also a rare genre in Bollywood. But Its a really nice effort to showcase how bad or good someone's life can go by his own mind.

From first few minutes only, we know who the caller Karthik is. But film takes a really interesting turn where ... » read more

    Good work Lalwani…

Karthik Calling Karthik rating: 5 out of 10

Vijay Lalwani's film is immensely watchable, purely for the class act by Farhan Akhtar in the title role. But he has letdown by his own writing. The second hour not only looks stretched, but the pace also gets excruciatingly slow at this juncture. The screenplay does tend to get a bit clunky and the drama somewhat heavy as the director looks for text book resolutions of the teasing problem. But, by and large, there is a thrill factor that keeps the momentum on. He creates some seriously creepy moments here. He successfully transforms an ordinary telephone into a malevolent ... » read more

    Only Farhan can do this…

Karthik Calling Karthik rating: 0 out of 10

It must be said that he takes giant strides when it comes to acting. He conveys the anxiety, simplicity and frailty of Karthik even when the script isn't doing it for him. Perhaps it's his innate filmmaker instinct. He makes a remarkable switch in his character from being socially challenged to self-assured. He never imposes himself above the script and remains subtle and sincere through his act. The story throws several challenges at him and fortunately, he emerges trumps in the most difficult moments. This is, by far, his best work.

Deepika on the whole looks ... » read more

Farhan Akhtar is only improving as an actor with each passing film. Just when you saw him confidently portray a self assured character in his first two films, in here he oscillates well between playing a meek guy and a super confident person. Deepika fits the part perfectly. They both make an unusually cute pair. Vivan Bathena and Ram Kapoor are aptly cast. Shefali Shah is good in the three scenes that she gets. » read more
