Ananda Chowdhury read out letters, delivered money orders, served mankind, being the ideal postman. But he was unaware of what had happened in his life until he was to marry off his son. He discovers that he himself was initially married to Sikha and not his love interest and present wife Sapna. Sapna had sacrificed her love for her twin sister Sikha as she was dumb and who too had fallen for Ananda. But after the death of Sikha in an accident Sapna married Ananda on the sly. Even after coming to know about this whole incident Ananda accepts Sapna and the film is successful in conveying its message that true relationships and humanity always triumphs because Sikha became dumb because of Sapna while they were playing together in a field, but Sikha never complained. So, Sapna decided to sacrifice her love for her sister's happiness. This was figured out by Sikha and even though she bears a son, Rabi, to Ananda Choudhury she is not fully interested in her worldly life. Afer an accident, due to which Sikha dies and Ananda is kept in dark about this as Sapna replaces Sikha and shares the emotional bonding with Ananda. But Ananda eventually comes to know about the whole incident - that Sapna took the advantage of being a twin to Sikha - but could understand the "katha chilo" and leads a blissful life thereafter.
