Nowadays a lot of films are being made on several bold topics and Kayekti Meyer Galpo is no exception. It deals with the subject of escort services . This is indeed a new subject, new territory and hence Subrata Sen could have made a solid film with a fresh subject, however the end product is a complete let down which is completely insensible and leaves one clueless.
The film starts well all right by showing Puja and Rini , two girls from the escort services going to a client to get money as they are blackmailing him. It seems that is what they do with him each time by sending a new girl to the unsuspecting victim . There are two more girls Taniya and Molly and all these girls seem to controlled by a guy called Monida. All the girls except Rini are old timers and Rini is a fresher who has just landed in this profession by chance. All of them all intend to give it up as soon as possible. Their boss seems to be impotent and seems to be having problems with his wife .
If the film would have dealt more about the lives of escort workers , more about how they operate in details and shown the profession as a character study, it would have been wonderful. Instead the director starts off on a positive note, but then doesn’t know how to proceed and the net result is hotchpotch. Molly is shown to be attracted towards a blind author and wants to help him financially. There is no problem in this just that the instant connection after the chance meeting is too instant and doesn’t seem realistic. All the girls are shown to be hanging out at bars! Says who? They are available anywhere and everywhere, not only at bars. A particular scene is repeated at different times as if the replay button has been pressed. Why? Without delving deep into the subject matter, the director starts exploring newer territories all within a single film as if he wants to potray every kind of character possible and make the film more complex. He starts showing a lesbian who also suffers from schzophrenia(RII) and also shows a bisexual(Sayoni) who most probably becomes one due to her husband’s lack of attention and sexual problems. What could have been a dark, sinister potrayal of the girls in the escort service remains a caricature of the subject due to sheer wrong handling of the subject matter. The director should also understand that just using cuss words don’t necessarily make the subject matter more authentic and make it seem to be more cool.
The only actress who stands out is probably Tanusree as she is able to bring some character to the role she potrays of Pooja who seems to be in command of the situative,She is assertive, is street smart and knows how to handle her victims. The relationship involving Subrat Dutta and Parno Mittra is interesting because it adds a new dimension to relationships. The director also appears himself in a scene.
The film could have been quite different because of it’s new subject, but turns out to be a big dissapointment.
