Kedar Roy, the zamindar of village Garshibpur once, his ancestors were rich zamindars, but lost their property for the addiction of music. Now, a broken palace is the only reminder of their lost glory. Kedar Raja as the villages still call him, is all obsessed with playing violin and fishing in ponds. His only daughter Saroj is widow and this young beautiful lady lives with his father, looking after her artist father. Her tragic life suddenly meets with a twist. A man, named Pravas comes to Garshibpur and wins hearts of both father and daughter. He starts to call Saroj didi (elder sister) and offers to take them to calcutta. Kedar Raja and Saroj come to Calcutta with Pravesh and his two friends. They wait for a chance, and chance comes Saroj agrees to visit Kalighat temple with them. After visiting the temple they bring her to a brothel and confined her there for a whole night. In morning Saroj escapes, but can`t return to her father. They threat her, but she is able to take shelter in a family. The family head Roy bahadur and his wife listen to her life story and bring her to Haridwar with them. Here she meets with Gopeswer Chatterjee, a known person who she calls Kakababu (uncle). Gopeswer brings her to Garshibpur. Again, Pravas and his friend come to threat her, but they are killed by Kedar Raja's loyal guard Ganesh. Police arrests Ganesh and before going Ganesh tells to Saroj where Kedar raja now living. Saroj comes to another village with her uncle and finds Kedar Raja at riverside. They meet again. Kedar Raja accepts his daughter leaving aside his old values.
