    Priyadarshan is known for comedy films, but then he has made more of films based on simple people, middle class people, villagers etc. In comparison with comedy films, these films are more in number. But even in such films the humor coating is there or at least in the promos. His last film had some good moments and was bit better than the few of the earlier ones. This time he teams up again with his blue eye boy “Akshay Kumar” and brings us another film based on a common man and his problems. Let’s find out how does he fare this time? Is it the same like his last few ones or better than those or at par to his classics?

    “Khatta Meetha” is story of Sachin Tichkule {Akshay Kumar}, a civil contractor staying with his father {Kulbhushan Karbanda}, Mother {Aruna Irani}, Sister {Urvashi} ,Elder Brother, Bhabhi, Elder sisters and their husbands. He takes municipal works and is always un successful in completing those jobs and has loads of debt over him. Besides his parents and younger sister, everyone hates him in the family. To make it worse the new municipal commissioner turns out to be his ex girlfriend Gehna {Trishna}. How does Sachin goes through all the mess and clear them is the entire movie about.

    Story is highly similar to “Chal Chala Chal” made by Priyadarshan’s asst. In fact both the films has loads of similar actors too. But the whole bridge scam is the new addition in the film and some more changes makes have been done. Screenplay is weak and goes in its own pace. The movie drags at many points and fails to connect your interest in it. Still few scenes like Road Roller going in reverse, Confusion in Asrani’s Office, Road Roller Repairs works, etc reminds you that you are in Priyadarshan’s film and are the best scenes of the film. Editing too is on similar lines of story and screenplay and goes on its own pace and has no idea about what’s going on. Camera work is fine, but the action scenes in climax had huge Ram Gopal Verma effect over it.

    Music is good and a relief in the film. Its whenever the songs comes you tend to enjoy for some time in the boring routine going on the screen. Nanachi Tang, Aila Re and Sajde are nice and enjoyable.

    I don’t understand why did Priyadarshan repeat what his assistant/clone T. K. Rajeev Kumar had already done in Chal Chala Chal. The whole family background is similar, the winning of Road Roller is similar to winning Truck in that film, and loads of more similarities. The height was of Manoj Joshi doing the exact similar role in both the films, he is the jeejaji staying in his in laws house and officer in the govt. organization. Maybe both the films might be remake of an old south Indian film, but that does not give Priyadarshan a excuse to make the film again with similar concept and do some changes here and there. It’s a bad sign when a mentor tries to make a film similar to his assistant. Also priyadarshan has to realize that it’s time for him to change his style, as there are so many clones of him who are trying to make similar types of films. Either he excels in what he is making and show them that the boss is always the boss or do something total different, but for god sake don’t keep doing the same stuff again and again.

    The movie has more than Dozens of actors but none of them manages to get your attention in this movie, it’s only when Akshay Kumar comes on the screen you get interested in the film. He has tried his level best to do something different in this film, but at many times manages to be repetitive too. I wonder what would have happened if Akshay would have not been in the film. Trisha was pale and bland. Rest all actors inc Rajpal yadav, Jhonny Lever, Makrand Deshpande, Aruna Irani, Kulbhushan, Manoj Joshi, Asrani, Milind Gunaji and others were quite average.

    So bol meri “Filmi Khopdi” is film mein kitna hai dum?

    The whole concept of showing the corruption going on in the municipal system and how does a common man faces it or goes along with it is great and the movie could had been a great dark humor. But sadly it goes on many different tracks and thus misses out the punch. With the slow narration, overdose of characters, too many sub plots, misleading promos, etc makes the movie a bad watch. when your food is over cooked you are left with a strange taste consisting of dryness and bitterness and that’s what this movie does for you.

    Ratings : 1.5/5 {For one or two good scenes, songs}
