Here's comes another 'Common Man and his Common Problem' cinema from the ace director Priyadarshan. Khatta Meetha is a clean fmaily entertainer, which you would like your family to watch.
The movie about this loser of a type contractor, Sachin Tichkule played by Akshay Kumar, who is the Adam Sandler of Indian Cinema. He is getting type casted as a loser hero. But he has perfected this act and therefore when he enacts Sachin Tichkule he adds nuances to the character, which lifts it from the ordinary.
Sachin Tichkule is a contractor who has built a few roads in the town but the Municapity has not given him the money as the quality is below par. On the other hand the movie shows the big contractors (Sachin's brother and brother in law) go scot-free even though their bridge collapses and kills many people. As they are able to bribe their way through.
The movie takes a satirical view of todays corrupt society. Which makes once-a-righteous man Sachin to fall into the trap of corruption, cause as Sachin says you cannot survive in a society of corrupt people without being one.
There are certain wonderful comic moments in the movie. Priyan has kept his regulars, Asrani, Manoj Joshi, Rajpal Yadav and Neeraj Vora. Akshay has come up with a brilliant performance and his comic timing is unfailing. Rajpal Yadav has creates some ruckus on the screen. I must thank Priyadarshan for bringing, Mr Kulbhushan Kharbanda back after a long time and he has put in a good performance as a father.
The movie does have its weak links too. THe first half is definitely a great one, it makes you ROFL. The expectation therefore grows for the second half which falters, due to bad editing which makes it a drag. The story then tries to talk about a lot of things than sticking to the initial storyline. The songs are peppy at times, but mostly passable.
The action sequence shot by Abbas Ali Moghul, with a handheld technique does need to be appreciated as it involves you in the scene.
The movie therefore is an average movie. But definitely would make you laugh and is light enough to cure your weekend laziness.
