To get the essence of this semi fictional realist pseudo-communist movie, one must have familiarity with the neo realist films made in Italy during & after the second world war. On perhaps the entire new style of theatre introduced by the immortal Bertalt Brecht (1898-1956) the Brechtian approach of alienating the audience from the movie has been used in this film quite consiously & effectively. As its a mundane film, Kichhu Sanglap Kichhu Prolap has no fixed story line, its an entire concept, a concept of the modern consumerist world where the under developed nations exploited by the imf & the mnc's are falling into an unending capitalist crisis of bankruptcy. Man has lost his identify, poverty & inhumanity is the order of the day. The entire movie has some characters like Arup, the narrator, Newton, Ananya, Biswajit, Shyamal, Amal, Labony, Tamal & others. The movie is divided into separate segments. The movie depicts the flow of lives of these intellectual elite of Kolkata who are actually nothing but paranoids & unseccessful individuals failing to come to terms with their psychic & the external global socio economic order. There is a formal story line in this imaginary movie which emphasizes that how a Arup Sen (Ashok Biswanathan) cheats & forgers the romantic bohemian Newton (Sanjiban Guha) in the name of business of dead body carriages. We find Ananya (Nandini Ghoshal) to be the love interest of Newton who gets fed up with his philosophical & impractical attitude towards life & abandons him. The rest of the characters are within the same arena revolving like planets in a solar system. The music by the late Gautam Chatterjee (who himself plays a comeo in the movie) is absolutely stupendous. Specially the song cafe, cafe. . . Ashok Viswanathan as Arup &. Viswanathan as the narrotor of the story give comendable performances. The crux of the story stands upon how the capitalist society has crept into the veins of every individual & how a person (Arup) cheats a needy struggler (Newton) & confiscates his entire bank balance (Rs10,000) though the audience comes to know that Newton was not a fool as he know what Arup was planning against him, but a true romantic. He lets Arup exploit him. In this way the director shows us an entirely new version of class struggle & dominance of evil.
