A poor effort.
Saw Kidnap, a trifle late in the day, perhaps, but was really keen not to miss Imran's next after Jaane Tu...., however, the movie was just unable to grip.
I think both Kabir's and Soniya's character were mis cast. Imran despite desperate efforts to look mean, fails, and Minnisha (in my humble opinion) tries too hard to look sexy and hot. The effort to be something which one is not, is visible, which defeats the very purpose. There are a plethora of actors today who would have fit the mean as well as the sexy look quite comfortably. Vidya Malwade as Minisha's mother was not convincing, she looked too young.
Sanjay was the only one who fit into his role with comfort.
Had the casting been right, the actors could have concentrated more on taking the characters forward cohesively as a whole, rather than continously struggling to keep their head above the water in convincing themselves and the audience that they fit their part.
The story was good, but the movie could not keep one's attention. I found myself looking at the clock too often.
The dialogues mouthed by Imran ...'This is a kidnapping' ... and that by Minisha, 'Dekho you've got to understand...I just have to take a bath' sounded positively silly.
So Sanjay Gadhvi, best of luck with your next effort, do learn from the mistakes made in Kidnap.
