Kishore Kumar is still the voice of India who has captured hearts of millions by his amazing singing style and acting. He was a versatile genius whose acting skills as a comedian had made a new landmark in Bollywood as well as Tollywood.
He was born on 4th August , 1929 in Khandwa of Madhya Pradesh. He completed his matriculation from Khandwa and later joined Indore College for graduation. But his call for acting and singing surpassed every desire and he left his studies midway. Although he hadn’t taken any formal training in singing, his phenomenal talent created a rage in the nation. In 1951, he got married to Ruma Devi and had a son Amit Kumar .Amit is a renowned singer.After his divorce with Ruma Devi , he got married to famous actress Madhubala. But due to the sudden demise of Madhubala,he again tied his knots with actress Yogita Bali. This marriage also did not last longer which lead to his marriage with Leena Chandrabharkar .They have a son named Sumit Kumar who is also a singer. Kishore’s elder brother, Ashoke Kumar was a reputed actor of the country who helped him to launch his career as a singer in the Bombay Talkies. “Ziddi”(1948 ) where he sang ‘Marne Ki duayen kyu Mangu’ for Dev Anand. Being a versatile genius, he made his acting debut in the film “Andolan” in 1951. His first Bengali movie was “Lukochuri” where he himself produced the movie. This movie gave him huge recognition as an actor. He made his mark as an actor in films in Bimal Roy’s Naukri.His acting career reached his zenith when he appeared in Chalti ka naam gadi (1958) along with Madhubala. Padosan(1968),Jhumroo (1961), Pyar Kiye jaa(1966) are some of his memorable movies. But as a singer he got phenomenal success with songs Haal kaisa hai janab ka in Chalti ka Naam Gadi, Yeh dil na hota Bechara in Jewel Thief, Mere Sapno ki Raani in Aradhana,Musafir hoon Yaaron in Parichay and many more. He was also a music director and lyricist for many movies.
He had got several awards as Male Playback singer for the movies like Sharabi, Namak Halal, Don, Amanush, Aradhana. This acting and singing sensation passed away due to massive heart attack on 13th October, 1987.
