Aimed as the biggest crossover venture with an assembly of a dependable bollywood superstar and a decent director, high quality Indian and foreign technicians and in-house maverick music composer all backed with humongous budget under one of the most prestigious and successful banner, one expects a volcano of entertainment and adventure. Sadly the outcome doesn’t match the expectations, and all one gets is a subtle Hollywood experience and a potpourri of a few bollywood debacles…

Let me start by saying that 'Kites' is not for the cynics. It is a story which belongs to the old school of filmmaking - an intensely emotional love story with some action thrown in for good measure. (Think love such as that seen in Ek Duje Ke Liye).

However, having said that, to me what the movie is really about is the intense chemistry between the lead pair. What stays back with me at the end of the movie and keeps flashing in my mind (as I put finger to keyboard) is the beautiful language that the two pairs of sparkling and lovely grey - green eyes (and in ... » read more

Old Kite tied to a new string

For sure, the expectations are high to go for a movie like Kites, which marks the return of Hrithik Roshan on the big screen, almost after a gap of 2 years. Hit music, big banner and heavy promotion especially with it being labelled as a movie of INTERNATIONAL STANDARDS and what not. The movie had it all for it to gain the initial momentum, but is Kites really something which you can put up among the international standards?? Not at all Mr Rakesh Roshan! Foreign locales don’t make up for a movie of international standards, but it even needs a well written script.

I went to watch 'Kites' ,selecting it to be my first movie-date, after my twins were born. And am I glad? :)
I decided to ignore the mediocre reviews this movie received ..which is all over the net, and even on this website, and watch it with a clear unobstructed mind.
I loved it! The movie is made in a such a sensual, subtle yet expressive manner..that it makes me wonder.."Where were films like this before?". The approach is very Hollywoodish..and maybe thats a genre which cannot yet be digested by the common Indian mass. There are no song-dance sequnces in line,no ... » read more

Hrithik Roshan is one of those few actors who have been balancing between commercial films and bit of different league types films. He has been successful in both at times and also has managed to bite the dust. After the award winning performance in Jodha Akbar and a cameo in Luck By Chance, he comes back in his home production with a romantic film which is total international in terms of making. His films does not need mega supporting star cast or some controversies, most of his successful films have been his solo hero project, just like this one. So with all the merits ... » read more

Worth A Watch For Roshan & Mori.

If you’re expecting Kites to be an extraordinaire, you’ll end up disappointed. If, like most people, you go for it expecting a good Bollywood flick, you’ll find it to be just about alright. The good thing about Kites is that it’s a typical Bollywood masala movie; it has all the ingredients – romance, love, betrayal, tragedy, mystery, heroes, villains, action, stunts, fights, gunshots, car chases, car crashes, greed, razzmatazz, music, dance, et al. The bad thing about Kites is that, if anything, it’s a little too Bollywoodish.

    Flight of disaster

Kites is everything and nothing. You get to see two best looking people romancing each-other, exotic locales, hear some gibberish that nevertheless sounds sweet. And yet you keep hunting for the story, you keep thinking when the movie would gain momentum and you keep wishing it didn't slack most of the times. Kites is an honest effort by Papa Roshan to launch his kid in the Hollywood block, but he needs to realise that you can't satisfy everyone at once.If he makes a movie for the Indian crowd, he has to know that a huge portion of the audience have difficulty understanding ... » read more

    Where is the script?

Kites rating: 3 out of 10

Lets be fair, Kites has amazing camera work, cinematography, both lead artistes look great and its shot in amazing locations. So if you are looking at finding your next holiday destination, this movie is for you. Else you will be wondering post viewing where is the script? And to tell you what Barbara Mori is a surprise. As the movie moves you stop admiring her looks and start appreciating her acting skills. She performed better than Hrithik and looked more real with her dialouges. This is a miss for sure, I am disappointed that it is one. Finally, one question, why is it called Kites? » read more

    Good in parts. Bad ending!

Kites rating: 5 out of 10

    By Harsh (05 Jun 2010)

Kites starts off well. Hrithik has an amazing screen presence which and flaunts his godlike physique in quite a convincing manner. Even the story seems not too bad in the beginning and Barbara is good (both looks and acting skills). So where does the problem arise?

Its the second half which is stretched beyond limits, and is nothing but regular lessons of deja vu! Chasing sequence is repeated more than once. Even the songs are lame in the second half, and to add to it is the movie's ending which is so disgusting that the whole movie seems farce.
