The eldest son of a middle class family, Durlabh Lal (Naveen Nischol), a lawyer is married to a broad minded working woman Shanta (Tanuja) and they have a son. The second son Uttam Lal (Vijayendra) is a photographer and married to Mohini (Asha Sachdev) but she is a very committed rich spoilt woman who cannot adjust to the family, she goes back to her own house. The youngest son Raunak Lal is first out of college and is searching a job and he is in love with Sundari. Mamta (Sarika) enters this set up after losing her parents. She is introduced as a maid servant but is actually Shanta's cousin. She has strange emotions with the three men in house! Durlabh Lal who is not a womaniser eyes her, Uttam Lal actually falls in love with her and Raunak Lal gets drunk and thinking her for Sundari, tries to make love to her. In the meanwhile Mohini returns, takes instant dislike for Mamta and suspects her husband continually. During Diwali, the household is hit with sorrow as Shanta's little kid who Mamta is also extremely attached to, dies at an accident. Soon after Mamta is found pregnant, and there is confusion over the father of the unborn child. Mohini urges Mamta leave and she leaves. Mamta takes refuge in a maternity home where she gives birth to a boy. Shanta hopes that Mamta's child would fill up her immense loss and urges everybody to look for her. One morning Mamta's death is reported in a newspaper saying that she has left a baby behind. Mohini instantly sets off in search of the truth and bumps into Mamta and her baby. What does Mohini find out? What is the truth?
