Itna bhi mat Kurbaan hona…
The off screen pair in the onscreen movie. A Big banner movie. Multi-starrer cast. Writer of the legend film ‘Rang De Basanti’. Music at par good. What more one wants to make a success film? Let’s hear from “Kurbaan’ only, what he’s trying to say.
Ehsaan Khan (Saif), who is a professor & Avantika (Kareena), who is also a professor; both falls in love with each other. As Avantika officially stays at New York, so instead of staying back in India, Ehsaan has decided that he would rather shift to USA. They married first, both then shifted to USA, bought an apartment within Indian neighborhood, Ehsaan also got a job as a Professor where Avantika was working, and everything was going as happily ever after. Until one day, Avantika figured out that something fishy is going in her neighborhood house. She found out that some whole group of terrorist is being staying there and is planning something big. Before she acts something, she was shocked to know that Ehsaan, her husband, is also involved in this terrorist activity; and later she was house arrest. To help Avantika, Ayaaz (Vivek Oberoi), an American journalist, comes in the picture. And the film goes on further till the end, how Avantika and Ayaaz stop this activity.
Rensil D’Silva, who has written the story and the dialogue of the 5starrer movie RDB, had made his debu as Director in this film “Kurbaan”. In which he is not only a Director, but also is Story and the Screenplay writer. Rensil had mixed matched the story of “Fanaa” & “New York”, with some added flavors of his, and presented us in some different style. In short, Old wine in New bottle. Also the presenting manner of the story is quite slow. The first hour of the movie tells you about how Ehsaan and Avantika met each other, how they fell in love with each other, and how they shifted to USA. Till mid-interval, you will just Ok and would rate it not more than 2stars. After the interval, the pace of the film was little bit increased, but only for a short while. After than the pace again slows down and the last 20-30mins is only watchable. Overall the story and presenting the story was Ok, but Dialogues by Anurag Kashyap & Niranjan Iyengar were more impressive rather than, especially in the first one hour. Rating: 2/5
Direction by Rensil D’Souza is A-Class. He has presented style and very impressive reality. Watch the scene when Kareena is taking out a bullet from Saif’s shoulder; watch the scene of the bomb explosion in the climax; watch the half burned faces of Nauheed; watch the scene when Saif hits a bullet in the head of Kiron Kher, and just so on. He has maintained each and every single and minute detail so perfectly, that even the critic’s people will fear in complaining. Not only in terms of the reality, but also the different angle shots taken by him were speaking the scene without any words. It would be purely wrong to say that Rensil was the debutant director of this film, as he proved that his directorship can be compared with any of the Hollywood action-thriller movies. Rating: 4 / 5
Editing by Asif Ali Shaikh was top notch, only plenty of fade in and fade out effects were annoying. But overall, he deserves an appreciation. Cinematography by Hemant Chaturvedi was excellent. Rating: 3 / 5
Songs of the film is average, except for one or two which sounds good. Respective videos to it are just a situational and a story base. Background music is rather good and holds the scene. In some scenes there was no background music played, which was quite impressive, quite creative, and was also looking good. Kudos to Salim-Sulaiman. Rating: 3.5 / 5
The off-screen pair in the on-screen movie. Saif and Kareena’s chemistry just excels in the entire movie. There’s no word to describe their chemistry. It was looking like their real love is being shown to us. The facial expressions, the smiles, the shyness, everything was just so sweet, so cute, and very lovable. Infact I would suggest that some romantic love story would be made with these leading cast. Even in the steamy hot scene between Saif & Kareena was not looking like “a sex scene”, but it was looking like a couple expressing their love, “a love making scene”. A 5 out of 5 stars for their on-screen and as well as off-screen chemistry.
Performance by Saif was just outstanding, and he has already proven that in many films. Kareena was more impressive that Saif here. Her expressions, her shockness, her pain, her feelings of love even though knowing that her husband is a terrorist, and at the end-the climax scene, all just stands out. Vivek Oberoi come-back after a long time was quite refreshing in this anti-terrorism sad movie. He actually performed quite well and really impresses in many scenes. Dia Mirza was good in a special appearance as Vivek’s colleague cum lover. Nauheed Cyrusi was also good in her short appearance. Om Puri excels in his role as head of the Terrorist group. And last not but least Kiron Kher did a fab job in her role, especially in the climax. Except for her style of dialogue, she was trying to speak Afghani but somehow Punjabi accent was oftenly heard.
Overall Performance Rating: 4 / 5
Reasons for the mango people that why they should watch this movie:
