Bloody (same) good old love story!

Kurbaan rating: 6 out of 10

Producer Karan Johar brings debutant Director Rensil D'Silva's Kurbaan starring Saif Ali Khan, Kareena Kapoor and Vivek Oberoi to the theaters. Kurbaan movie review can't be complete without remembering old Hindi movies, where the hero was a dacoit or a thief, or some con or a don, or a smuggler who the audience and the beautiful actress fell in love with, but the love story did not always have a happy ending. Now, in 2009, all the above professions have fallen out of favour. Our film-makers have now fallen in love with terrorists. Earlier this year, we had Kabir Khan's ... » read more

Ohhh... the tragedy of kurbaan! Almost like a schizophrenic film. Starts very well and upto ten mins before the interval, quite impressive with the taut treatment.

And then suddenly, around interval, it loses the plot, the sanity and reason, and never recovers. Some simplistic jehad theories that seem so superficial, some pretentious lectures on the muslim identity and 'multiculturalism', some rehashed cliches on the pak-afghan-american triad... Add some americans who speak superb hindi and an fbi that behaves like bollywood cops! Typical KJo - as a friend of ... » read more

    Itna bhi mat Kurbaan hona…

The off screen pair in the onscreen movie. A Big banner movie. Multi-starrer cast. Writer of the legend film ‘Rang De Basanti’. Music at par good. What more one wants to make a success film? Let’s hear from “Kurbaan’ only, what he’s trying to say.

    Story:
Ehsaan Khan (Saif), who is a professor & Avantika (Kareena), who is also a professor; both falls in love with each other. As Avantika officially stays at New York, so instead of staying back in India, Ehsaan has decided that he would rather shift to USA. They married first, ... » read more

Rensil D’ Silva chooses a topic too hot to handle for a debutant director. A good cast, a good concept supported by some good music, Rensil ‘D Silva has it all set. So does he deliver?? Well..he does but not fully! What he comes out with is a blend of ‘Fanaa’, ‘New York’ and a bit of his own flavour. Kurbaan is a movie that could have been turned out into an edge of your seat thriller, but thanks to certain weakness in the technicalities, it turns out be an average affair!

Ehsaan (Saif) & Avantika (Kareena) are professors in the same college at New Delhi. What ... » read more

    Kurbani Rang Layegi ?

Post 9/11 many film makers in west and eastern counties have made films related to the theme either post event or prior to the event. But in India the wave had not caught up that big except for few films just portraying the event in minor scale. The blow to Indian film maker came in form of a Pakistani film “Khuda Kay Liye”, the success to this film started a trend of making films with this theme and forced association of Indian Muslims / Asian Muslims to this event or the aftereffects. This year we witnessed a masala inspiration of Khuda ... » read more

The curious case of Avantika Khan

Thoda sa “Love Aaj Kal”, thoda sa “Ajnabee”, thoda sa “Fanaa”, thoda sa “Khuda Ke Liye” aur thoda sa ‘New York”. Lo ban gayi “Kurbaan”…

Khalid a.k.a. Ehsaan Khan (Saif), a newbie professor at Delhi University, keeps ‘piling on” his fellow visiting professor Avantika (Kareena). She falls for him soon, but before they could unite she gets a call from her university to report back. Unlike “Love Aaj Kal” hero, Ehsaan does not believe in long distance relationships, and so he convinces Avantika’s father to get them married ... » read more

THE Couple — Saif and Kareena — Who breathe life into Kurbaan.

Just two sentences for the lovely couple in the film: Volatile relationship is gripping and the performances are heart-felt.

Saif’s understated menace is the perfect foil for Kareena’s aching vulnerability. Saif Ali Khan is wonderfully restrained and oozes confidence in his act. He is like a hawk, unpredictable and focused throughout. Saif puts in a solid performance as the brutal yet brooding terrorist. His character remains surprisingly ambiguous, and despite a superb build-up, his track ... » read more

The movie’s cost was around 50 crores and that will come back in the producer’s hands easily. No doubt in that.

About the movie, Director Rensil D'Silva keeps the audience hooked with several powerful sequences like - Kareena serving coffee to Vivek - Om Puri asking Vivek to gun down the innocent man at the food counter - steamy sex scene between Saif and Kareena - when Kareena discovers her husband is a cold-blooded terrorist - the gruesome bullet which Kareena removes from Saif's chest and the climax, which received a huge applause from the audience.

A well directed movie...naturally it has to be... coming from Karan Johar. ..good music....Vivek Oberoi is fantastic. Matching Saif and Kareena at every step, Kurbaan should be the turning point in Vivek's career...he stole the show completely...on the whole it is a good film. The film has a captivating plot, gripping screenplay, super performances and a climax that shakes you up completely. » read more

Kurban though shall not set fire on the screen but shall proved to be an average runner. The story is not new but the director have done good job, I think kareena has been miscast priyanka chopra and or
lara dutta have suited the role more better nevertheless kurban is an honest effort by Karan Johar, but karan missed the bus as khuda ke liye and new york already dealt with the same subject, Neverthe less after cutting all those unwanted kissing scenes the film is watchable only once that too for fantastic acting by saif ali khan, and two songs, and cinematography ... » read more
