Kyaa Super Kool Hain Hum rating: 7 out of 10(Divya Solgama wrote on 27 Jul 2012)

Till a decade ago, Adult Comedies used to be considered as a taboo subject and definitely not for A-Grade cinema lovers. They would be mostly B-Grade low budget films with full dosage of skin show. In between we did witness some films like Shekhar Suman-Padmini Kolhapure starrer ‘Anubhav’ or Govinda-Khushboo starrer ‘Tan Badan’ and few more which had some good adult jokes, but never managed to get on the right track. However, with rise of Multiplexes & Satellite channels where films like ‘American Pie’, ‘Confession Series..’, ‘Harold & Kumar’ and many more became regular features, the whole perception started to change. People were slowly getting ready to accept this genre in main stream Hindi cinema and it was that time when films like ‘Kya Kool Hain Hum’, ‘Masti’, ‘Dostana’ or a recent example of ‘Delhi Belly’ etc hit the bull’s eye. These movies were full of taboo subjects and topics which did not cross the vulgarity line and managed to keep its level of adult humor on highest and at times the crudest form. One cannot forget the famous ‘Naseerudin Shah’ scene from KKHH, which is perfect example of witty writing and thus when the makers announced a sequel to KKHH, people knew deep inside that they are going to have much more than what they saw last time. So let’s find out whether ‘Kya Super Kool Hain Hum’ will manage to tickle the Adult bone once again or ends up as just one of those duds which manage to cash on its predecessor’s success.

Story of ‘KSKHH’ is plain simple one liner where two strugglers {Tusshar Kapoor & Ritesh Deshmukh} meet women {Neha Sharma & Sarah Jane Dias} of their dreams and try to win their heart. But it’s the treatment and the adult humor which makes this film special. Since the story is simple one liner thus in such films it’s the screenplay and the situational scenes which play an important role. Out here it’s full of many great situational scenes where one might just roll on the floor laughing. Scenes like The Tusshar audition tapes followed by his Tele Shopping Ad’s, Ritesh as DJ in a Gujju party followed by the whole Shakru {Their Dog} mating scene, Neha Sharma arrange-marriage meet at the restaurant, Ritesh as Escort in private party, Tusshar proposing Neha, The Return of Popat {Razak Khan} at Dhabba, Anupam Kher’s Movie souvenirs collection, Ritesh at Gay club followed by Parasailing with Howard Rosemeyer, The whole Devdas chapter followed by Sakru’s marriage towards the finale and many more are the highlights of this film. The writers have poured in some of the best and witty one-liners followed by adult meaning of words like BJ, Period, Vet, Blue, Bade Acche Lagte Hai, 1769, Convertor, Marlo, Handsome, Macho and many more. After watching this film, these words will have a different and hilarious meaning. On the flip side, the heroine’s performances, low production values and lack of story {especially in the middle part of the film} are the weakest aspects of this fun-ride. The movie goes flat at many places, but thanks to the jokes and events, the makers get you back in the game. Camera work is average and so is the editing.

Music is peppy and some songs like ‘Garden Garden’ and ‘Tere Shirt Ka’ are already chartbusters {Thanks to Ekta Kapoor who has been promoting them on her Daily Soaps on regular basis}. One will enjoy ‘UP Bihar’ and ‘Volume High’ as they go well with the mood of the film. Background music is entertaining and usage of the title track at various places is superb.

Director Sachin Yardi’s last flick {C Kompany} missed the bus, but this time it’s on the right track and that too with power-boosters. From the first promo, the makers have showed us that this movie is full of adult sex jokes and at times double-meaning ones too. Thus you know what you are going to watch and don’t get a sudden shock while watching the film. The makers have added all the elements required for such a film and have tried not to sound vulgar, which they have succeeded in large quotient. Yes there are few places where the humor was forced and at times feels a bit crass too, but you got to accept that as the words sound different when spoken in Hindi.

Ritesh Deshmukh has mastered in such roles and out here too he shows his brilliance with superb timing and perfect expressions. Tusshar Kapoor is good in many scenes but at times falls short too. Neha Sharma and Sarah give their due support but are plain average. Anupam Kher is hilarious, Razak khan in a small cameo is outstanding, Chunky Pandey starts well but ends up badly with a half baked role. Kavin Dave & Howard Rosemeyer are great in their parts. Rohit Shetty and Mushtaq’s cameo was unwanted. A Special mention for the Pug {Shakru} who is one of the lead heroes of this film.

So bol meri ‘Filmi Khopdi’ iss film mein kitna hai Dum?

Iss film mein bada hai Dum, kyu ki ‘Kya Super Kool Hain Yeh’. Yes if you have the funny bone which tickles with adult humor then you will enjoy this film with lots of laughs. As for the people who expect world class of cinema in every film will be highly disappointed with this film. KSKHH is targeted for youth and people who are young at heart. Thus for them this movie is like a Chilled Beer on a sunny day as for others it might be the warm Beer without the fizz. Enjoy this movie with friends and leave your thinking hat at home.
