Raj Malhotra, a small time lawyer from Hoshyarpur, comes to Mumbai to make it big. He meets his friend Mohan (Satish Kaushik) who gives him place to stay. Raj meets Tejpal (Anupam kher) who is supposed to be the the King in the profession of law. Raj impresses him and his daughter sonam (sushmita sen) by pretending to be honest. He takes up a case of a don named Kalra (Ashish Vidyarthi) and proves his worth as a lawyer by getting his brother bailed out of a murder case. He not only wins but makes a mark for himself. Meanwhile the story moves forward, Raj marries Sonam, becomes a successful lawyer and has a son by the name of Chintoo who loves his dad but is sad that his father never keeps his promises. The film takes a turn when a builder (Ajit Vachchani) looses the case of society against his tenants. The builder approches Kalra's men and gets his tenant Anand Mahatre (A Mahadevan) murderd by Kalra's brother Vinod (Shabaaz Khan). Rajat (Mohenish Behl), a journalist records the murder in his camera. But he is chased down by Vinod's men and is killed. But before he dies he leaves the murder tape in a bag. Sonam goes to console Mrs Mahale (Jaya Bhatacharya) and assures her that Raj will fight her case. Raj takes up the case but is constantly threatened by Kalra to loose the case. Sonam finds out about and confronts Raj. When Raj gives in to Kalra's threats, Sonam leaves him as she is fed up with his lies and greed for money. Chintoo is caught in between his parents' fight and makes a wish, that his dad should only speak truth, to get things right. Chintoo's wish comes true as Raj, after that, is unable to lie. He fights Mrs mahale's case truthfully and wins it with the help of the tape. Kalra and his brother are arrested. Sonam comes back to Raj. From that day Raj vows never to tell a lie and live a life of honesty.
