On the onset let me be clear that “Ladies V/s Ricky Bahl” is no “Band Baaja Baraat”. The story is of a con man Ricky Bahl (Ranveer Singh) and how he cons the builder’s daughter Dimple (Parineeti Chopra) as Sunny by selling a Bungalow to her builder father in Delhi, Raina (Deepanita Sharma) by selling her the fake Hussain Painting in Mumbai as Deven and Saira (Aditi Sharma) in Lucknow by duping her by posing as Iqbal from Bareily whose family is into Zardozi work. Post which all these three ladies plan to con Ricky Bahl through Ishita Desai (Anushka Sharma) a street smart girl who tries to outdo Ricky Bahl.
The story credited to Aditya Chopra is a mish mash of YRF’s earlier films like “Bunty Aur Babli” & “Badmash Company”. The screenplay is fast paced but predictable and Maneesh Sharma has tried to keep the characters as realistic as possible but they are not as earthy as “Band Baaja Baraat” . The dialogues by Habib Faisal are realistic and catchy.
The high point of the movie are its performances especially the performance of debutant Parineeti Chopra, she will definitely be nominated for the Best Debut Female for this year, she has the spunk and histrionics to be the next star. Aditi Sharma & Dipanita Sarma has also done an excellent job. Anushka Sharma does a fair job. But the real star of the movie is Ranveer Singh he enacts all the disguises with élan and goes a step forward from his previous movie and proves that “Band Baaja Baraat” was not a fluke.
The weakest point of this film is its music by Salim Sulaiman which has no noteworthy song. The songs have no link with the movie and acts as a deterrent for the movie. Overall it is good weekend fair. 3 stars from me.
